holy shit, it's now being reported that 12,000 people have been killed. not only that, imagine how many people are homeless and left with absolutely nothing.

13,340 and counting. this is such a huge thing. im so shocked that so many americans havent heard about this, when 9-11 happened thats all that was on TV for a week straight. 13k+ people dead and millions homeless, this is undescribable.

14,000 and climbing, although one AFP source puts the figure at 17,000. Still the News sources on TV (here anyway) still treat it as just another story.
I am fascinated though by the thought seeing some videos of what this must have looked like when it first hit. Witnesses said the water just dissapeared for a bit, the tide just suddenly dropped way below normal...then bang!

I only saw a few videos of a small tsunami after the 2nd earthquake.
People ran for their lives, and got hitten by a huge wave.
Imagine how the first tsunami would've been, and how big the damage was when it hit the coast.
Scary....

Think about this: 100-150 + years ago, we wouln't have found out about this for months probably. The world was a much smaller place.

13k dead, imagine all those still missing. this number is sure to rise.

Imagine if the epicenter had been in the middle of the atlantic, and the wave had hit both the East coast of the US and England and then Europe. They said the wave probably traveled at 500 MPH so best case scenario would be an hour or less warning. NYC is basically an island, and a one hour warning wouldn't do jack shit to help NYC (six million people and handful of bridges and tunnels would become clogged and impassable within 10 minutes).

What added to the creepy factor for me is I had just finished watching "The Day After Tomorrow" when I found out about this story....

Local newspaper here had it as huge front page story this morning, and cnn was running coverage all night it seemed last night....

Totally agree. It's no more science-fiction, but reality. Mother Nature once again showed her powers.
I live in the Netherlands, and we live about 100 meter below sealevel. If there will be a big storm, or even worse, a tsunami, 75% of Holland would be no more. Only here more than 9 million people will die. And than I'm only talking about Holland. England, France, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, west-coast of Africa, east-coast of (South-)America, will face the same as what happened to India, etc. yesterday!

Don't forget the icecaps are melting (Not because of global warming, but because the world heats up and cools down in cycles on it's own) and new york and the UK will be underwater in a few hundred years, and Las Angles(sp?) I think it is will break off from America after a while if there is an earthquake bad enough.
