American GOVERNMENT aid: $385 million.
American Citizen donations: $45 million.
So all told the US have given $430 million not counting the assistance of the Pentagon through choppers and airlifting capability.
A good BBC article on this subject:

No, I don't like the way you guys think (not that my opinion matters in any way), but a big and rich country, the mightiest country of the world, donates 'only' some millions (which is ok, the amount doesn't matter) and expects gratitude? The whole world is donating, Germany donates over 700 million dollars btw., but expecting gratitude in such a situation is just sad.
That's so damn right:
Germany donates $700million?? stop lieing. not even close to that
America has donated about $400 million and most our equipment is being used to search for the dead and drop supplies. I believe we have sent two carrier groups over there as well.
America is a world leader and acting as such during this awful disaster.
Your the one turning this into a competition, not us.

What the the GNU of Germany?! 4 maybe 7 billion a year?!

All this talk about money, how much and who, is pretty pointless (as an argument that is). Very little money percentage wise is being fully used because we are in the very early stages. Right now it's all about airlifting in food and medicine, burying bodies, and sorting people out (who's dead, who's living, who's missing). The bulk of the money isn't going to spent for a while, and over a period of time much, much, much more money is going to be donated to repairing infrastructure. Like I said, If your neighbor has a house fire, the first couple acts of charity are small: a place to spend the night and a couple of hundred out of your wallet, because at 3:00 in the morning, that's all that CAN be done. The big stuff comes later. Same thing with this disaster, all this money is just an emergency stop gap. The one UN guy that complained was just under a lot of stress at the moment.
This too shall come to pass.
