NHL could possibly disband.

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

my opinion of the NHLPA has really changed.

I think that the players are FOOLS for thinknig that $1.3 million a year average salary is not enough...

teams cannot keep losing money, simple as that!

Omg, if I have to hear about another dumb jock whiny cry baby talk about how much money they are making, when they are making way too much as it is.
Ya, NHL doesnt make as much as other sports, and that is wrong. All athletes should make near the same base amount, in my opinion. By this, I mean, waaaaaaay lower than what they get paid now. I agree that the popularity of the sport dictates most of the pay, and dont think one sport should get all the glory, when all athletes, especially contact sports, take a huge risk to compete.
I think the main problem is the owners are making too much, and the players not enough compared to what the owners and corporate smackets make.
But, as I have said b4, I dont feel that a guy who can skate, and shoot a puck, is anymore important than a guy who can fix my transmission. In my mind, it would be absurd to pay a pro athlete 5 times more than the average joe performing a needed task. Of course, its way more than that, largely due to the fact that sports are all about money these days, all about entertainment, and less about sportsmanship, teamwork, and the feeling of a sportsfigure belonging to a city, for the team, not how many millions they are being paid by the team, to make the city more popular.
Dont get me wrong, I luv sports, but I am not a big fan of seeing star players being traded like we used to trade playing cards as a child, all because they only got paid $8 million last year, instead of more, more, more, b4 ya know it, athletes will be royalty, if they arent already. I guess Ive never been one to totally idolize someone ive never met, on the basis that they can hit a ball, or shoot a puck. I hope the NHL gets better, for all u guys who dig hockey, but dont feel bad, most all sports go thru a time of sucking over the good ol dollar bill.

Its very simple, if we all share and play nice, we all can live and have a good time living, playing, whatever. It goes back to all men being equal, or at least on the same scale. A quote from FDR's Four Feathers:

The basic things expected by our people of their political
and economic systems are simple. They are :
Equality of opportunity for youth and for others.
Jobs for those who can work.
Security for those who need it.
The ending of special privilege for the few.
The preservation of civil liberties for all.
The enjoyment of the fruits of scientific progress in a
wider and constantly rising standard of living.
These are the simple, the basic things that must never be
lost sight of in the turmoil and unbelievable complexity of
our modern world. The inner and abiding straight of our
economic and political systems is dependent upon the degree to which they fulfill these expectations."

See the part about special priveleges for the few? If we all are paid near the same salary range, we all can eat and have materialistic crap. We need to realize all jobs are important, and making others unable to live as well as another person because they cant shoot a puck or ball, is not fair at all. We all need to have all jobs completed, whether for a place to live, food to eat, electricity, or the big one today, entertainment. To me, the ability to live well should not be for the selected few, and the rest of 90% of the world have to live less than well. Have a good day:)

I just wanted to say how much I am missing the NHL. It is not looking god for a season, but man, I am really missing watching hockey. THe World Juniors just reminded me what I was missing...

I wish they would come back to play hockey.

We've done quite well out of it over here. A lot of good players are over here playing for next to nothing just so they can keep their eye in. Not that I follow the sport or anything...

what gets me is that if the "market value" in the world for these players is $300-500,000 (what they are getting paid to play in Europe now), why do they think that the market should hold $multi-million dollar salaries?

THey themselves have proven that without the NHL, teh most that they can make elsewhere is hundreds of thousands, not millions...

Not smart if you ask me...

It's not the same thing though. The sport is really minor over here and there isn't the kind of merchandising and ticket revenue that you get over there. I see what you are getting at though. The greedy mother f*ckers!

On Saturday, me and some friends went to our previous high school's hockey game. Our team kicked the other team's ass, but I noticed how sloppy everyone was playing.

*sigh* Come back NHL! :(

I have not watched a basketball game since their strike. I will never watch a hockey game again because of this strike. I am glad that the NHL is closed. Maybe they can get a perspective on the real world and figure out that they are getting paid to play a game, and the owners are being paid to provide entertainment. If The NHL is not there then the world will not come to an end (Good riddance to a whole league of prima donnas). The only people who take it in the butt for high salaries is the fan. The owners pass the increase on to you. The market has spoken and it says that it (fans) is not willing to pay the price that the players are asking. So if they continue to stay uber greedy they will continue to be unemployed in North America. The fan price damn well should go down if the players cave-in because the owners won’t be paying as much in salaries.

P.S. Phantom, the players are making anywhere from 20-100 times the average Joe
