Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

42s are killing me in CS, & that's in CS! So much tearing, it's unbelievable. Look's like I will try these out :)

Has anyone ran into problems installing 43.00? I tried lastnight and it keeps giving me an error message saying that a file can't be copied when I try to install it, I've downloaded the file 4 or 5 times now, and everytime its the same thing.

I had problems in the past also. Please go to the Battlefield 1942 Forum and find the thread started by ToastedHam, scroll through the replys, and you may solve your installation of the 43.00`s. Let me know if this helps out!

The link I first posted was corrupted; thats why I removed it.
Try downloading them again from a different link.

Mine worked fine, I am not getting that much improved performance, however.

You guys do Vysnc On or Off?

V-sync =always off, Antialiasing = off, Anisotropic = off, and Fog table emulation = enabled or on. Then run your benchmark test`s. If you have your video card overclocked too much, which I did I ran artifact testing and it showed allright, but in game I noticed some tearing effects, and reduced my core and memory back 5Hz in each and problems went away. This was after installing the 43.00`s. Hope this help`s out. Good luck!

Alright, thanks, I always hear so many different oppions on what to have on & what to have off, it's tough to recognize what is right.

Anistropic does not have alot of impact even if left on during benchtesting, and in certain games they say it`s best to leave anistropic on, which can prevent blurriness in certain scenes. It does not effect your FPS very much, that I can tell.

Having problems installing 43.00? Says it's can't find a file? Is that a .hlp file? Read the text before you d/l the file..the 3dGuru version was stripped of the help files, so there ARE missing files. Just hit skip and they'll install fine..unless you happen to speak/read anything but English :)

I had to un-install the 43's last night, they don't work with Freelancer, kept giving me missing VxD and VMM errors, which the MS Knowledge base said were caused by bad DirectDraw calls. Reinstalled the 41.09's and all is good again. I'll wait for the WHQL certified drivers again.

Dan and Silverfox,

Do you really have little to no FPS hit when leaving anistropic filtering ON? Wow. I wish my system ran that way. I have a huge FPS hit when I have them on. Further, all the text chat is blurry in BF1942 when I have it on. I'll give it another try now that I have the 43.00 drivers.

Freedom, I really don`t have any FPS loss with anistropic on or off. Of course I don`t have at this time as good of a video card as you either! I definitely leave V-sync off and antialiasing as you suggested in the past. Im fixing to stick another 512 ddr ram in and purchase the 9700 pro and then I may notice a difference with anistropic on vs. off when benchmark testing.

Kristov, I to downloaded the 43.00`s a few days ago and some folks like um, some don`t! I had no problems, and did D\L the 43.00`s from 3dguru. I also was using the 41.09`s, which to my knowledge are not WHQL. The only one`s that I know that are WHQL, is the 42.30`s, 40.72`s and the 30.82`s all with windows XP. I personally did not see any great improvement over the 41.09`s, but some guy`s like Freedom, really like the 43.00`s. I think it all boils down to our various specs in our machines, which are all different to some extent. Plus discounting benchmark test`s, all of our eye`s see things differently.

I'll try with anti off...but currently I get 99 fps in CS(not hard to do) with it on..

43's are unusable on my machine. I wasn't surprised though because anything above the 40.72 drivers on my system caused the "endless loop" bug that's been plaguing nvidia cards for a while now.

About anisotrpic filtering; has anyone noticed it has vastly different effecs on different games? With it on full, BF slows to a slide show on my machine. But in NOLF2, even if it's cranked there's nary a frame dropped.

And about WHQL certification; I wouldn't let it influence anyones decision on driver choices. All it means is that Microsoft has inspected the drivers and they found them to work with their systems. But even the crappiest of nvidia's drivers are still pretty good, so MS's WHQL cert. doesn't mean a hell of a lot.
