So King, here is a question, do you actually believe the 'monster cable is the best, it improves picture/sound' or would you only say that because you are supposed to get sales on it?

I've known people over the years that have worked there, and actually have to go to seminars on how great Monster Cable is, and how they have to push it on every customer.

FYI, all Monster Cable is is any other cable company + extra money to pay for the Monster Marketing Department, so they charge way too much for it. There is no improvement, cable really doesn't matter as long as it is properly made. Heck, I have a VERY expensive home theater, and I can tell you that there is absolutely no difference between a $20.00 cable and a $1,000.00 cable except for price. It's pure 'snake oil.'

My favorute BB story is when they took one store's home theater department to Klipsch headquarters, and the BB speaker told all of the sales people that the Synergy line of Klipsch is THE BEST speaker ever!!! Meanwhile, Klipsch's own people are basically laughing at the BB speaker.

The whole monster cable thing... I wouldn't push monster very much. Unless i knew i was gonna take someone for all they were worth. They sold some cheaper cables that were pretty good quality actually made by Recoton. Of course the name was Recoton on the Package...i dont really remember what the name is to tell you the truth. The mark up is huge on all accessories anyway, more-so on the Monster line of cables than any other they sold.

When i worked there, (I sold HT stuff) I liked the Klipsch stuff the best out of what they sold. Was it the best? No fucking way. lets get things straight people, if you are buying a quality HT system, most of your audio equipment isnt going to be bought at Best Buy. Some of the stuff is decent but its not top of the line by any means.

I dig on the service plans there cuz A: I've actually been saved a boatload of cash by them, and more importantly B: After several years of service, i know a lot of people in the St. Louis area who will bend over backwards for me to get any of my stuff taken care of. I was actually a good employee and not the asshole i portray myself to be on the forums :)

And Since Tommy keeps harping on about the DLP, i'll check out the 43 inch just to make him happy. I know they sell it so maybe i can get a discount on it too. ;)

Oh yeah, Jimmy, for all your Best Buy hating needs go to http://www.bestbuysux.org Some good horror stories from both employees and customers alike.

Monster makes some good stuff but does it really matter to 95% of the market? And like anything else your paying for the name. That stuff is intended for Theater Rooms. Not living rooms (such as i ) that have large TV's. If you Reciever is 500 bucks and your wire runs you 300 whats the point? Don't forget your suppose to have a dedicated room with the correct ambient light from behind your viewing wall. I went out and bought nice bananna clips and some really nice gauge O2 free wire for my speakers. Wire will oxidize if its that LowesDepot stuff. Oh and all that $200 surge supression stuff ? for get it check your Home owners policy first it should be covered there.

Oh and following King Of Beer Warranty thoughts...
Consumer reports after years and years of saying Skip the warranty agrees that warranties should be put on large TV and Laptops.

Is DLP the same as a rear projection?

lol, no just a 32" HDTV tube tely.... This is just a "job well done" thing i'm buying for myself. I've always wanted a nice television and figured nows the time to do it since buying an engagement ring isnt an option right now. ;) and thank goodness for that.

Meathead, you are exactly the person Best Buy wants walking in their door. You will believe it. There are much better brands out there, for cheaper and for more money. In the end, however, they all sound the same. As for O2 free cables. They basically all are. Some sell it as being special. My favorite 'snake oil' is cryo cables. Yes, specially freezing their cables makes them sound better as electrons travel better.

Ever notice how Monster cable doesnot even tell you what brand cable they are actually using? Most use brands like Belden, etc. Yet Monster tries to even hide the fact that all they do is buy bulk wire, then add their own connections on the end that say 'Monster' on them. That is the best part. You can make the same $50.00 Monster THX digital coax for about $10.00.

http://www.bluejeanscables.com Same quality as Monster cable, good prices.
http://www.heartlandcables.com Same quality as Monster cable, good prices.
http://www.bettercables.com More expensive.

It goes on and on. Sorry, you have really fallen for the 'snake oil.'

If you get an HDTV with HDMI, there is only one DVD player top get. Secrets of Home Theater and HiFi just did their DVD shoot out, and a DVD/VCR Toshiba combo took down the Mighty Denon. Second review in the shoot out.
