Unusual Weather in California

Postby EZC » Wed Feb 23, 2005 4:54 pm

Jeeze the weather these last few months have been really bad here in California. Mudslides, blizzards, and it seems tornadoes. By the way Shwoff if u read this did u see the three tornadoes that touched down in Sacramento. Never thought i would see a water spout up close but i saw one in. http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?floc=FF-APO-1110&idq=/ff/story/0001%2F20050223%2F1329608967.htm&sc=1110&ewp=ewp_news_0205mudslide

My backyard is completly flooded. Dont expect good fruits from California this year cause of all the rain.

stay safe smacker....maybe you should move to Canada where the weather is usually one of the hot topics of discussion...

too hot, too cold, too humid, too much snow, too much rain, not enough rain, etc...

we are a hearty bunch you know!

Hey! I was working out when the power went out in the gym. I went over to the window and looked out at the very dark clouds. Thinking nothing of it, I did another set then looked out the window again. That's when I saw the roof of the apartment building next door coming off. The debris swirled around in the field next to the gym (25-50 feet away - in hindsight, the window probably wasn't a good place for me...) for a couple of minutes before it moved across the street and took off the roof of the Shell station.

We sat there and stared at the clouds for several minutes as the funnel threatened to touch down. Amazing sight. It was about a block away. All of the clouds were being drawn into the large funnel. It started breaking up and moving northwest so I went back to my workout - until I realized that my house was about 1-1/2 miles northwest. I grabbed my stuff and headed home where my nanny and twins were...

Luckily, my house wasn't hit but there was a path that led from where it touched down 1/4 mile away and within 4 houses of mine (there is a news reporter that lives 4 houses away. His back fence and his neighbor's fence were demolished.

I believe they officially classified it as an F0 which is around 80mph. Roofs and fences were about all it damaged although a couple of vehicles were lifted up and a couple were turned over. I've been within 1/2-mile of an F3 in Fort Worth. The original funnel looked like it had the size of that one....

EZC, glad to hear that you are staying safe. Some of the flooding and sinkholes in SoCal are devastating.

that is some crazy weather. i heard that is the 3rd most rain in so cal history?
(recorded history, that is).

christ, if it's not raining, it's a major drought. I remember the huge fires in Laguna, Mission Viejo.. what, like.. 13-14 years ago? I was living in HB at the time, watching the fires from the pier.

Thanks Shwoff but luckily the hill i live on has enough vegetation so it wont slide on me or my neighbors. I was more thinking about u cause of the tornadoe. Rain i can handle though my plum, apricot, and orange tree are going to produce horrible fruit. it did look cool having my backyard flood again. ankle high cause the drains got clogged. Luckily no water damage to the house.
