New Comp?

I am about to start a new job this month, and was thinking about building a new computer so I could play some bf42 and Bf2 when it comes out. I was wondering if someone could list all the components needed to build one. I know the basics, but it would help me if I knew all the parts I need to get. Any help would be great.

Case (350W or bigger power supply)

Motherboard (Socket type on motherboard must match socket type on cpu)

CPU

Heatsink (If you dont buy the retail version of the cpu)

RAM (I wouldn't get less than 512mb, Get correct speed for cpu ex. 800fsb gets ddr400, get correct type for motherboard. DDR or DDR2)

CDROM

Floppy (Still needed in some computers for drivers)

Video Card (Check motherboard. AGP or PCI-Express)

Hard Drive

Sound Card (Could use onboard sound if you like)

otherwise, the essential parts of a pc are:
1. case with power supply unit. depending on the components you are looking forward to buy, the capacity of the power supply unit shouldn't be less than 350 Watt, better 400 Watt
2. mainboard
3. graficadapter
4. cpu with heatsink
5. ram (for win xp 1 gig is recommended)
6. harddisk
7. dvd-rom or dvd-writer and
8. floppy-disk (optional, as most operating systems nowadays come on cd or dvd).

as optional components there will be
9. sound adapter (most motherboards today have a built-in one)
10. lan adapter (same as sound adapter). if you're using dsl as your internet connection, you definetely must have one.
11. dial-up-adapter, for work if needed, like modem or isdn-adapter
12. irda (infrared) or bluetooth adapter for connecting mobile phones and the like
13. wireless lan adapter, if you are looking forward to connect several pc's in different rooms to the internet.
if you choose 13., you also need a wireless lan access point.

there will be no recommendations on the several parts from me, as i
1. don't know how much money you would spend
2. don't know what usage the pc is intended for
3. hate flame threads (intel vs. amd, nvidia vs. ati etc. etc. etc.).

definately go with an AGP vid card if you have the $$$, they are nice. Mine is only 64mb and still does a great job, you can get 128mb ones for cheap...

i'm about to build myself a new system also. But i decided to get a motherboard with a AGP slot instead of PCI xpress because i thinks pci xpress wiil not really become common until a couple of years from now, also its bloody expensive. Also you should go with Athlon processors those things are built for gaming and they're cheaper to buy than the Intel chips.

i have a zip drive
recommended for storing things that you know youll hardly ever use that nobody else can read. good for mp3's.
reads pretty quick and keeps things organized

So what are you thinking of building? Can you take any components from your current machine? I think I would go with a PCI instead of an AGP mobo if I were upgrading now. However, I would not go with SLI. I have considered getting a DFI or MSI NForce 3 or 4 mobo with an AMD 64 3500+ and a PCI Geforce 6600GT or 6800GT. Depending on the combo it would cost between $600-800 for the CPU, mobo, and graphics card at this time.

My 2c. Take it with a grain of salt.

I dont have a machine of my own now. I had one in Arlington, but my brother uses it now. My girlfriend has an emac, so needless to say i cant play any video games with it. I plan on building from scatch.

Many of the pc parts will depend on how much you want to
spend. What kind of price range are you talking about?

2000 - 2300 is about how much i would like to spend. I think building a new comp as opposed to buying a dell, would be a neat little project. Hopefully i will be done just in time to frag everyone at bf2.

I think you should just buy a dell of ebay like I did, you wont have to mess with any of that crap that you would probably end up screwing up. I know I would.

Ok....I need suggestions. I have been looking stuff up for about 2 weeks now. I would like some ideas to kind of point me in the right direction.
