how do i test my connection?

open command prompt. then type tracert and ip addy u want to ping. my dail up at home is faster than this pos.

There is obviously a hub, router, whatever you want to call it, somewhere that is out.

I have had it happen numerous times, and it happens to all companies, not just time warner.

Many times they do not know about for a few days because no one bothers to call them and say they just did a trace, and X is out.

You should always follow up a traceroute with a ping - various sizes are better. Not that traceroute won't give you a good initial indication of where a problem may lie. It's that traceroute uses the ICMP TTL expired in transit to measure its times. The problem with using this is that many network administrators turn ICMP off. Or, sometimes, the router may prioritize ICMP very low, which will add latency that you wouldn't necessarily see with traffic passing through the router.

Pings to the ultimate destination will give you an idea of the traffic latency (pings passing through a router are considered traffic and, therefore, not given the low priority of ICMP...).

i called then they said it was internet traffic... well i'm pinging 42ms right now.. lets see by 3-4 o'clock.
