After hours trying to track down a universal translator for W.T.P.L.ese (wolf tournament player language), I found out that, basically, Zog hit the proverbial nail on the head. :D

I'm with Tha.

Congrats GFU on kick ass tourny.

Hope everyone had fun.

I'll have to back up Nightraven's comments as to how much time is spent by GFU members playing. I don't think they spend any more time playing then anyone else, it's just that they are more productive with their time. You'll see them with the Headshot or Aim maps on the server practicing 1v1 skills or having 5v5 scrimms with other clans. That's why you don't see them around OC48 as much. The difference is not in time spent, it is in the approach to the game. Whereas most view Wolf as something to be enjoyed first and to be competitve with second; GFU is competitve first and foremost. Due to their experiences, they have accumulated a lot of strategies for different maps that they've had a chance to refine during many different scrims, ladders and leagues.

IF we were ever to have a tourney again, we would have to address the question as to how fair it is to have a league-clan like GFU up against recreation clans. Just a thought, but maybe we could have two different divisions if we were to do this again. A 'rec' league and a 'pro' league, if you will. From what I'm hearing, organizing this tourney was a pretty thankless job for Ice, Zog and anyone else involved, so I don't know if we'll have another.

Ice did most of the pre-game scheduling..I was handling the in-game map swaps and team alignments, plus trying my best to let teams know when they played next and where.

It was a big confusing, but patience prevailed and we got it off.

A lack of communication between and a general dislike for the GFU server caused most of the real issues, so maybe next time we'll use just one server. One set of rules, one set of expected attributes and one place for people to come and watch/chat.

We might do it again...this time spread out over two days, with more visible scheduling and one server.

I think that's a splendid idea BurningWick.
I also had an idea for the next tournament but I don't think it will go down to well. My idea is a "mixed clan" tournament and by that I mean that on each team every player will be from another clan. That way the team who wins, will have every clan in it and so all clans will actually be victorious. Here is an example of how I see the teams line up......If there are 6 clans partcipipating it will be 8 players on each team, the 2 extra places would be filled by non-clan players that wish to be involved in the tourney. So all teams rosters would look like this.....

TEAM ROSTER
{GFU} Mr X
S.S. Mr X
[A.S.H.] Mr X
(WEF) Mr X
{AsB} Mr X
{RD} Mr X
Non Clan Player Mr X
Non Clan Player Mr X

...........You might think it's a naff idea, but I see it more as a fun challenge.........

Great idea giggles, I came up with that one at the same time, just didn't write it down. That way all teams have equal oportunity and there are none of the issues that got ppl all tickled the last couple of days

....I think it will help cut down the number of arguing on the day too, and encourage all players to get along with each other....

I would like to see this tournament happen....

Unfortunately, I could see members of the same team starting to bad-mouth their new team-mates, ala OC48 at high-noob.:freak:

Hmmm. But you would get to choose your teammates, and those that do bicker will have to learn to co-operate with their teammates to have a chance of winning.

I think a tourney can work with regular clans. I had a great time with the WEF guys...my crew didn't get to play the ASB or RD guys, but I thought even the ASH guys were good (I thought there would be a lot of bad blood happening there, but things went smoothly).

The mixed-clan aspect seems like a decent idea, but not one I think we need to fall back on.

I say we involve only clans that have actual human-beings participating. No Borg, no surgically-enhanced Gamma-Freaks and no Bubble-Boy Test-Tube Nazis. Only clans with people who have jobs, mortgages, car payments, no free-time, taxes to pay, thinning hair, girlfriends and/or families...and people who have actually had sex with other people over the age of 12 in the past three weeks (Bukk, we'll have a special dispensation for you).

If this happens i will def. help out with the workload, i'm an expert with what you are trying to do. You could hold a draft ( i've done many, many fantasy sports drafts )with appointed team leaders, with rules of course:

1) team leader from each clan ,and 1 from a non-clan, drafts in rotation anyone but they're own clan ( ex: Leader of ASB couldn't draft anyone from ASB )

2) each team have maybe 2-3 subs so in case you are scheduled to play a certain day and someone can't make it, it's cool homie, got a sub ready ( and of course subs would play anyways in a rotation or whatever ) if you really want to get technical Team A has 9 players, 1st game 1-7 start (if you want to sub after a bit thats fine ) 2nd game, different day, starters would be 8,9,and 1-5...3rd game 6-9, 1-3 get it?

3) everyone sign up for the draft, except team leaders, which SS could have 2 and any other clan ( ASB is pretty big now ) ...hold a live draft on msn, yahoo atc...( or if you had my idea i asked about yesterday >>

http://www.oc48gaming.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1897

4) teams will be posted after the draft here in the forum, to make it simple every clan submits a roster of draftee's and when someone gets chosen, the Captains mark them off the list, simple...and 2 minutes to draft between selections
