But what will be the financial fallout? It all begins with how many fans will show up for games when play resumes. The most recent work stoppages in Major League Baseball and the NBA caused immediate attendance declines of 20 and 2.2 percent, respectively, and both sports needed at least four years to recover to previous levels.

Great... I sure hope attendance won't be extremely bad when the league returns. :(

It won't ...people that follow hockey and go to hockey games, are real fans, the reason baseball had such a decline after the 94 incident was because the average person who goes to a baseball game doesn't follow the season and get into like the NHL fans do. The way i see it is, most people when talking aobut the NHL are either dedicated fans who love the game or they know very little about it. Baseball is kind of a tradition so even non-sports fans will go to see the games, and it affected them after the lockout.

Btw, as for TV...ESPN declined its option for the 05-06 season for televising games. This was most likely due to the fact they decided this before talks started going as good as they are now. ESPN im sure will resign on for Wednesday night hockey. I believe ABC also gave up its rights for the Saturday games.

hockey fans will come back, especially in Canada, but it will not be right away. The damage done is serious for sure and eventually it will come around, but not in the short term.

They really need to announce a deal and get back to hockey!

Actually, the blues are on the selling block. Anybody know anyone with 130 mil?

I sure hope that the Blues do not fold...they have been a great franchise and it would be a shame to lose them. One of my favourite Blues of all time was Tony Twist!

:)

Tony Twist..rofl. Blues don't have that great of a franchise history, theyve only been in the league since the very alte 70s i believe. I dont think they've ever won a cup either. Don't get me wrong i dont want to see any teams to drop. Im jsut arguing for the sake of arguing. :p

Watch hockey, and then say that. They work more then probally any other pro sport during a season. 82 Games of hitting and fighting, basketball is 82 games but isnt rough unless you send Ron Artest on the floor unless you first administer his shot of Ridilin. Football is only 20 games max, and baseball is 182 games of no physical contact whatsoever.

Chris Pronger !

IMO, Hockey is the most grueling, hardest sport. It is also the one that requires the most talent.

If any teams are gonna fold it should be places where it doesn't belong in the first place. like Anaheim and Phoenix, Atlanta, Florida, u know places where there is no such thing as a white christmas.

I think that Columbus and Nashville are question marks for sure, but then again, so is Pittsburgh!
