The Numbers

I love this site. It's amazing to see what sort of budget film had. Like for example I can't believe Van Helsing cost 170mil where as LOTR return of the king was just 94mil, can you believe that?
Funny to see how badly some of them tanked as well. What a waste of money...

To be fair it hasn't done the world round yet, it's only just been relesed over here. It may pick up a little, but looking at the trailer, not a lot...

If they actually made movies that weren't remakes of old TV shows or creepy movies with some evil possessed girl then people might start going to the movies again. Theres usually only 3 movies a year that I want to see in the theatre.

It's great to see all the LOTR movies place so highly on list.
Making movies is always a gamble, but I love the approach Peter Jackson took. Starting out with good material (a book that's one of the all time best sellers) and then committing to doing everthing right and not cutting corners really help even out the odds in your favor. I'm sure there were plenty of people telling him to get big name actors to draw viewers to the theaters, or film it in Hollywood, not pack up and move an entire production to New Zealand.
I'm sure there's aspects some fans will always dislike, but I can't imagine a better version realistically coming out of the system that so routinely turns out sh*t movies.
BTW, they're making a movie about Johnny Cash. In light of how bad 'Ray' and 'Ali' tanked,I hope they didn't spend more than $50,000 making that movie. It's tough to draw people into a theater for a movie about a single person. Yeah, 'Ghandi' pulled it off, but that's the exception to the rule. Some movies (no matter how good) are just considered cable/rent movies, and some are 'gotta see it on the bigscreen' type of movies.
