hey.. i am not sure which one it was.. We were big Marvel fans so if that one was out in the early to mid 80's, that was probaby the one we played.

Summoner geeks started out as just an audio skit by a group called the Dead Alewives. Then someone added the figures from two video games called Summoner and Red Faction. BTW, someone mentioned it got banned at their school? I had one friend whose parents banned him from playing it after they saw the handbook "Deities and Demigods". Kinda funny, they also got pissed when he had to read 'Lord of Flies' for High School English class.

Played D& D from 79-85. In late high school and in college. Played as a player and DM. Played in some nasty 18-hour long matches. Could smell the candles for days. Still have some character sheets and books squirreled away. Saw the Basic D&D game in Toys R' US and thought I could get my kids into it, but it is listed as 12 and up. Drat.
Used to paint and sell the miniatures to pay for college texts.
Used to play Battletech and CityTech too with the miniatures like Ender. We had ours all painted up. I remember painting a pink Marrauder called the "Pink Cadillac" for my friends girlfriend. We photo copied the maps actually created a 12" by 12" map in the dorm sutie with cities and open country and would drop in the mechs by dropship into the area. They were games that would last for about 8-10 hours. Those were the days before PC gaming. When you had to use your imagination.
Might play D&D again when my kids get a little older-- Roll for Initiative!!!

Ya, I ment to say AD&D, not D&D. Plus its always a toss up to play AD&D, or Magic: the Gathering. A nther game thought to be satanic lol

I had the best deck ever for Magic. Nothing but white cards.
A few banned cards but even after I take them out I still pwnt everyone. Such as COP and ROP. But 1/2 my creatures regened my HP the other half had resistxnces to red, white, and green.
I was also heavy anti-enchant. I had 8 in my deck, circumvented the rule because there were 2 differnt kinds of anti-enchant cards with differnt names. My friend had solme beastly artifact creatures that I would just BOOM HEADSHOT. Against a good black deck it was who ran out of cards first. Because one of my friends got ahold of a invulnerable to white card, so it was always. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it. STOP BLOCKING!

Couple of things to mention (sorry for the length):
I knew some guys that played Traveller a LONG time ago back when they were a collection of mini-books (almost pamphlets). Always looked cool to me, but never played it.
Speaking of mini-books, I knew another guy whose dad gave him the original set of D&D books (before any of the boxed sets and hardcover books) that David Arneson and Gary Gygax created just after making the Chainmail tabletop rules. Really cool piece of gaming history.
It was 1983 when D&D was banned from my school. The admin were influenced by a very religious group of parents who were on the Parent Teacher board and we were no longer allowed to play during school or even after school on school grounds. There was even a meeting with parents and students about the evils of playing D&D in an attempt to persuade parents from letting their kids play it at home. It was a strange time.
There's a comic artist named Jack Chick who makes these little pamphlets (mostly for kids) that some people call "Christian Propaganda." One of the funniest ones ever (unintentionally so) is this one right here about the dangers of playing a fictional game called "Dark Dungeons": CLICK HERE If you ever played D&D you HAVE to check it out.
Along the same lines, you HAVE to read the following article about just how evil D&D is: HERE
There was an early 80's TV movie starring Tom Hanks called "Mazes and Monsters" (based on a book of the same name) that was basically about how dangerous playing D&D could be. Laughable at best. IMDB Info here

First, two mythos that were represented in the book (one based on the Cthuhlu mythos and another based off of the series "Elric") conflicted with copyrights owned by a company called Chaosium (in turn, licensed by Arkham House), so the printing was halted at some point and then continued again with a "Special Thanks" section added in the beginning.
When it came time to do a second printing, they took both mythos out of the book and changed the name of it to "Legends & Lore" to avoid any trouble with religious groups.
Funny afterthought to all that. For the Third Edition of the game, Wizards of the Coast published a new version of that book and went back to the original title of "Deities & Demigods."
This has been yet another useless fact from your fellow D&D geek.

A friend bought some D&D books when I was a kid, but we didn't know anyone who could teach us how to play properly. Did play the D&D computer games a bit, though. Never cared much for RPGs, then or now.

Yeah a movie about DOOM without mentioning demons and Hell... That'll be great.
Anyhow D&D and I are rather intertwined, but seriously I didn't have any real friends to play the game with til college. I played some IWD via PC with some friends after college, then I got involved with some friends playing good old paper-and-pencil D&D a few years ago and it was cool.
Now I'm stuck with just NWN for "real" D&D and Guild Wars for a general fantasy RPG.
