If people want to beleive in inter galatic warlords, etc, let them.

At least with this 'religion' they look to improve themselves through change instead of blaming it on something/someone else.

Agreed, who is to say believing in aliens and volcanos is any more reasonable than believing in someone who died on the cross, sat under a special tree, Vishnu, or not believing in any kind of supreme entity at all? Everyone has their religious beliefs (or not) and hopefully they use them with good intentions of self improvement. Starting a thread to visciously bash any kind of religion is really ignorant and quite pointless.

No, there's a point to this thread's creation. I can bash the Catholic Church, say it's a fraud, start a website bashing it, become a comedian and go on national television and bash Christianity, Judaism etc. Bash Scientology publicly enough, and you will get sued. They are very aggressive and their attempts to crush free speech put the other religions modern day efforts to shame by comparison. I have no problem with anyone's religions, but if I want to mock, I'm going to mock it. That's also my right (in the wider world, not so much on this forum). Besides that, it's nice to be tolerant, but there's nothing wrong with an opinion and a person's judgment. Sometimes in a race to be tolerant, we go everboard and become paranoid about bias. If a religion called for the sacrifice of children, we couldn't just write it off as a 'different belief system'.
Fuck it, mocking Scientology is fun. In fact, my religion is Cavalierology, and it's core belief is that I must mock the ever living shit out of Scientology, or any religion that irritates me on any given day.

Thats a little extreme.

I didn't argue you have no right. But, there's a time and a place...if your goal is to challenge and piss off the scientologists...would it not be more effective to go actually FIND the scientologists instead of ranting about a cause that nobody is here to defend on a gaming forum?

It's not my goal to piss of Scientogists, I just saw this thread and decided to pile on. Nothing extreme about it. And if there's no Scientologists on this board, then we're not even hurting anyone's feelings. Not that I would care if there were.

True, but you can say this about any religion. If you look at the history of different religions, is any one more believable than the other? Also, they are ALL guilty of being the root cause for intolerance, hate, torture and death. Like George Carlin once said, "if you don't believe in my God, I'm going to kill you!" or something to that effect. :)

Personally, i think we should all go back to Greek Mythology. At least that was really interesting and kinda cool!! :D

Yeah, any religion is mockable, but some more than other....some waaaay more than others. I don't believe in the PC notion that we must rank all religions, lifestyles, cultures as equal and different. I think there is nothing wrong in a person having an opinion about some of these touchy subjects. I think that Spagetti Monster religion has easily as much validity as Scientology, but much less than say Christianity or Judaism. Just my opinion. The only thing that is wrong is if people refuse other people employment, housing, etc based on beliefs. But as for mockery...hey, it's tough world, we all get mocked (deservedly so) for the choices we make. I know people that would rip us all a new asshole for playing video games. It's their right, so be it, doesn't bother me any.

With the continuing flames, Staff has decided to make a decision.

From here on out, Political threads and Religious threads are banned. Those threads will be closed. If a poster continues to post new threads, they'd best prepare for a beating.

Keep in mind.. ECGN staff reserve the right to declare what is appropriate, and what isin't. If you don't like this, please see the below links.

You have been warned.

SWEET!

Jimmy Tango! I like you but we have had some seriously heated discussions and may very well be polar opposites (though I do respect you)

The owners evidently don't give a shit any more!

Let's start some serious shiite about politics and maybe bash some majorly contested social issues!

It's cool to bash Scientology because it's not acceptable at the local christian church.

So it should be ok to lambast gays, blacks, Jews, muslims, asians, retards, republicans and democrats because they don't hold the same views!

Hell! I am about to take on women in the workplace (back in the kitchen bitch!), the incredible redneck ignorance of people from the Virginia area and the evil that is French speaking (sorry Chacal, I do love you, in a plutonic way) people!

It's all evidently fair game again!

Because after all we do need standards! When they apply to people that think like us.......
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." ... Benjamin Franklin
