Hey, Football (soccer) is the biggest sport in the world, u dont like coz America sucks at it, and never qualifyies for the world cup. I also find it strange that American football and baseball, your biggest sport are only really played in America, in fact England has invented most sport.

Hey alofwar, if you hate America, just come out and say it, don't skirt around the issue attacking something as meaningless as sports. Who would realistically give a second thought to some other countries choice of sports? I've never had even a lukewarm emotion over the fact that Japan likes sumo wrestling, or whatever. I don't really care if you hate us, I'm just amused by the misdirection of your hatred.

Know your facts Jack:

US has "never" qualified the last 3 world cups... but somehow they played in the world cup tourney anyways.

Baseball is played everywhere except for small pockets in Africa and Europe and is huge in central america, south america, Asia, some in Austrailia and here in North America.

There were sports long invented and died out way before many brits started using opposable thumbs to aid in picking up a cup of tea...

My bad, it just struck me a strong stance regarding something as innocuous as sports.

Point taken.

I just thought from the scope of the discussion that you were trying to justify soccer players' toughness compared to NFL football players.

I'll admit that playing soccer isn't easy, and you have to be insanely fit to play it efficiently, but that doesn't make it exciting to watch, nor does it make the players comparable to NFL football (or NHL Hockey players for that matter).

Soccer is a skill, no doubt, but so is chess. I just wouldn't pile into a stadium full of drunken rowdies to cheer on a chess match or a soccer match.

Soccer hooligans scare the crap out of me. How do you fight with someone that enjoys it when you punch them in the face?

whoa hold on a sec, let's look back at some World Cup soccer history. Grant it the USA has never won the cup and soccer is just now catching on as a major sport in the USA (MLS [major league soccer]); but England hasn't won in recent history. england won the cup, i think only once in 1966, when most of us weren't even born yet, versus a west german team.

in 1994 the USA made it out of group play and i think that year England didn;t even qualify for the cup!?

in 1999 our USA women's team won the Women's World Cup and i also think had one of the longest wining streaks in soccer at the time.

also in 2002, England and the USA both made it our of the group rounds but both lost before the quarterfinals.

still it is a growing sport here and we do now have freddie adu. i think USA soccer will catch up to the rest of the world soon ;)
