You're forgetting that 95% of snipers didn't even know they even had binoculars, never mind what they did. Remember it like it actually was...

Yeah you're talking in a general sense of playing the game online with random people you didn't know. I always had Mazer, Ender and AM Foxtrot on the other end of TeamSpeak. One of them was always a sniper.

So... my memory was that they spotted for artillery.

Granted in BFV it was kind of useless, but it was an option.

Thats true Chicken :) but in my case i tend to forget the
bad parts and remember and embellish the good parts.

I have fond memories of doing artillery with 2 friends. Taking the Wespe and an APC in the central hills in Gazala, blowing up the plane campers in the allied main base from the other side of the mountains, with a scout spotting for me. :D
