I actually kinda liked Enemy Territory for a while. All it was was RTCW with a few extra features/weapons. The only drawback was the maps were inferior, they should have adapted some RTCW maps.

IMHO RTCW rules because of its realism, great graphics, fine storyboard, cool maps and good gameplay. It is definately one of the greatest games ever released in its category. I never understood why they released ET while RTCW was still winning popularity? I also played ET for a while. I agree with Slaughter for the fact that it feels like a half done game. In my opinion a few things could have been better, added or done otherwise. I also agree with cavalierlwt regarding the standard maps. Altough if you play on a server with customized maps based on frequent map rotation the gaming experience is much better. ET offers a few great features like a different choice of weapons. Some classes were added other classes were either removed or have other possibilities / responsabilities then in RTCW. For instance the Engineer class is needed in every map in ET and he has a lot more to do then planting dyno now and then like in RTCW. The Lt has been replaced by the Field Ops and the Covert Ops function is nice because you can steal an enemy's uniform and try to get behind enemy lines. The scoring system, or XP save is also a good concept. You can be promoted when your score improves and the more you score you receive extra possibilities. For instance a good Medic it's health bar will load quicker so he can hand out more health pacs, etc,... Some maps on the server where I play have moving vehicles which is also added value. I'm also a bit curious what the new version of RTCW, if it ever will be released, will bring us.

Take ET and adapt 'Tram' from RTCW and that would be a hell of map. The ability to deploy MG42 gunners and mortar teams would create quite an atmosphere.

That sounds like a great idea cavalierlwt. I like well designed maps with lots of opportunities like buildings, moving objects, good places to hide, etc,.. To be honest I have never concentrated myself on any map design so I have no knowledge/experience in this field. I'm even not sure if RTCW maps (or parts / objects of it) are compatible or not with the ones from ET? LOL I'm even not sure on which gaming engine ET has been built? Most games have their own map building software. As far as I remember and if I am correct their are even a few (modified) Quake maps for RTCW. Your question would be a good thread on a specialized map design forum.

Some of the regs here and I used to play ET to DEATH. I loved hopping onto a server towards the beginning of a campaign and then ending with all skills maxed and at the highest rank. We stopped playing because (1) BF42 took over our lives (2) the server we used to play on all the time shut down for good and (3) more and more servers were running custom maps and it was annoying trying to keep up by having to download a new map or two every single night.

Great game, though. Since I never had RtCW, ET was my outlet back then. It had some absolutely brilliant game mechanics that I wished more games had. Finally, BF2 incorporates some of those, but I wish it did moreso. Some things I'd love to see (in BF2 that ET had) are: the ability for Spec Ops to disguise themselves, the ability for medics to get better or faster heals as they increase in rank, and maps with objectives.
Move as a team, never move alone. Welcome to the Terrordome!
