LCD monitor

Sun Oct 09, 2005 6:34 pm

I know a lot of folks are using LCD, but not me and I don't know much about them. I'm looking for a 19" LCD monitor. It won't be used for gaming, only general purpose and TV. There are so many out there it's difficult to choose.

Price around $300?.

Any suggestions?

This is the only one I can find that even remotely comes close to what you want...

Viewsonic is a relativly good brand.. I have favored them, but with the recent reports of folks having troubles with their LCDs you might be warey..

I know of a Samsung that is 19" with a built in TV tuner, but its a $700 LCD ;)

I have that one. Very good quality for the PC. haven't tried the tuner yet. It's the SyncMaster 910MP.

Only drawback: no DV input.

I have a 22" lcd screen and it works good...Only thing is that I think its going out because every once in a while it will start to blink I have to restart my computer to fix it

Go to http://www.bensbargains.net

Dell is having a 35% off on some of their accessories. I saw a 19" LCD for $276. Does that work for you?

OH and 24" Wide screen LCD (2405FPW) $779... sweet deal for the monitor Havoc uses! ;)

Thanks guys.

What do you look for (technical stuff) in a LCD monitor for PC that allows viewing of video, mainly TV? The PC has a TV tuner.

In other words, what's the most important thing to look for? This is a gift for an eldery friend of mine and I want to make sure he has a decent quality picture (no ghosting or whatever).

You just need to look at a couple of details concerning PC Gaming. Not ALL LCD's are created equal here. You need to look at the Refresh Rate and the Contrast Ratio. The Preferred Refresh Rate for gaming is about 12ms and below. The Contrast Ratio should be around 600:1 or better for proper PC Gaming quality.

Just a little tidbit there. Hope that helps a little.

nightcrawler is right but what i think he means is the RESPONCE TIME, not refresh rate. refresh rate is measured in kHz.
responce time is measured in time,ms. lower response time = less ghosting. i wouldnt get anything under 500:1 contrast either.
for around 300us samsung or viewsonic would be the best bet for quality/price ratio. but thats just my take on it.
