Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Ok this might be a dumb question so laugh if you must.
Which is better a AGP 4x 8x or PCI express 16. On a nividia geforce 6600

if you dont have the motherboard for pci-e dont upgrade
its just about the same
if you have a pci-e slot get pci
if you dont, agp8x will give you the same speed and quality

Thanks Skilodog. How do I know if my pci slots are express? My manual that came with pc just says they are pci slots.

If you have agp at all you do not have PCI-E.
I would get the 6600GT version of that card BTW.

thats not true
some pci-e boards have an agp slot
pci express is new so it will probably say it in big letters
agp slots are set back on the motherboard where as pci/pci-e slots are close to the back

There is a new chipset or two coming out that has both AGP and PCI-E and can run both at the same time with full bandwidth to each, instead of sharing the bandwidth between the two.

Emphasis on new chipset!
When did you buy this thing tony?

Thanks for all the help guys.
Well I am looking at that card. But I see it says GDDR3. I think I have DDR memory will this be a problem. I guess I can go with this one

Man I thought you could just buy one of these things and stick it in

The memory isn't an issue, thats what it has on board, its not related to your system ddr memory.

Do you have an extra molex connector lying around in the case?
Those cards need extra power, check if you have a free one first.

also notice the PNY card has only 2 DVI connectors, no analog output,,,DVI cable is another 100$ if you dont have one,,it probally has a adapter though

When I had to upgrade for BF2 I went witrh this one:

I don't know if the GT you have linked there is all that much faster, but this Chaintech one has double the memory and is slightly cheaper.

*Bump*
Well I am going to get a new card this weekend. I still have a question or two.
Does it matter if the agp card is 2x 4x or 4x 8x? I know th 4x 8x is better, but will either work if I have an agp card already (have geforce 5500)?
Do theses things use alot of power? I have an extra molex connector. And a stock 350 watt power source from dell.
I guess I should give my specs to help you guys help me.
2.8 p4 300mhz
1.5 gb pc 2700 ram
geforce 5500 128mb
80 gig hd
1. cd drive
1. A drive
no sound card
350 watts ps
Here are a few cards I am thinking of. Is one way better then the other or should I save a few bucks and get one that will go better with my setup?
6600gt 128mb

6800 128mb
