I grew up and still live in New England and maybe it can be blamed on the scenery or maybe it can be blamed on my mom, but I have always been fascinated by Christmas. It is by far my favorite holiday. The music, the season, the family, the food, the TV specials I've watched since I was too young to remember and all of the really good times I can remember. We still have the old vinyl records and I can remember the pops and scratches by heart.

Seriously, you're just growing up. The thrill of getting presents is not what it was. In a few years you'll discover the thrill of giving presents.
If you want to kill the spirit, do what my family just did: decide we're not giving any presents anymore. And when you receive one you don't like, look disappointed. That really kills the joy of giving.

And more than anything, and perhaps you will come to this as well, now that I live so far form my family, I look forward to Christmas as a time to be with people who know me and love me for who I am. It's hard to appreciate your family when you spend every day with them.
I guess not everyone has a family they miss, but I am glad I do, and I look forward to Christmas every year.
Oh yea being in Michigan, always have to have snow on Christmas and a ski trip over the holidays Some of my best memories are going to church Christmas eve and having it snow and snow and snow! I love snow, if it's going to be cold I want snow and lots of it! Lol Yea I agree with you, I like giving gifts that people didn't expect to get and they love My fav gifts are from my sister, because her and her bf always get me something really cool and I never know what it's going to be I used to really hate my sister, but now I look forward to seeing her now that she lives prity far away and works all the time.

I really don't understand why people are so pissed about this.. maybe its because I work for a Jewish owned company and am so used to happy holidays...and our holiday party rather then christmas party.. either way the beer is still free 
over here in PR they also celebrtate the 6th of january as 3 kings day..

I love Christmas time. For all the reasons mentioned above by havoc, ender, sabres, evan, etc.
I hate the whole commercialization of Christmas. I am a little older and maybe that is why. I am sure when I was a kid all i thought about was presents and "what am i getting?". But you look at the holiday season differently now. I love just having off of work, the music, food, etc. Spending time with friends and family. I wish parents these days would teach thier kids these values instead of just buying them what they see on TV and rammed down thier throats in the commercials.
I have friends who have kids that are toddler age or a little older and they are all stressed out about getting them what they want and the whole trip to the mall and fighting the crowds, etc. I think that is what ruins the holidays for people and is why less people look forward to it. Because they know ahead of time how stressful it will be.
If people just took a step back and just appreciated the time of year and didn't focus on the gift giving, everyone would have a much better time.
Regarding the subject of "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays".... I am all about supporting the numbers and who you are affecting the most. While I have no problem with saying "happy holidays", the truth is a large majority of us celebrate xmas! Out of 10 people, 1 doesnt celebrate xmas. Why change everything for that? Actually, here is what i could find on the actual numbers:

It looks like 80% christians, 5% other religions and 15% athiest, agnostic! Interesting. On a personal note, i was raised catholic but now consider myself agnostic.

There are numerous holidays at or around the same time as Christmas. I do not see why some people get so honked off that retailers want to make each holiday as important as the next.
Christmas isn't the exclusive holiday of the end of December, people. Hell, it isn't even the day he was born!!!
I do agree with the 'Holiday Tree' BS, as a decorated tree is a specific Christmas tradition.
It would be like calling the Menorah a 'Holiday Candle Stick.'
Christmas today is nothing but a holiday for retail sales. My family stopped giving gifts years ago. We just get together, eat some good home cooked food and then me and my uncle fall asleep watching football.

What to think?
The small community college that I went to and got my associates from used to put up a manger scene in the courtyard of the school that was donated ba a major contributor to the school. People had complained about it so they said any other religions that want to put things in designated areas of the school can and it was all fine and good until a satanic group came in and put like dead rabbits, and bloody things up. So the college ended up canceling the whole thing and putting the manger in permanent storage. That really didn't seem right to me and it's a shame that it happened
The only reason that the satanic people did it was to end the whole thing and the college can’t put restraints on what your "religion" shows because that would be wrong according to many people, and lawsuit would be soon to fallow was the justification.

Christmas to me has no religious meaning, I don't go to church onChristmas, or for any other day of the year, but when other religions start saying it offends them, well i say F*** U, u shouldnt have come to this country, they need to accept we have our own traditions so let us do them. If we went to the middle east you would probably be killed for celebrating christmas. I not being racist, just being telling the truth.

These are times of extremes in both politics and religion. Extremist people are easily offended. At some point extremists will be nudged out and situations like this will go back to the normal level of tolerance.

The annual 'Kill a tree for Jesus' holiday. LOL

We had no tree and gave no presents as strictly speaking, neither has anything to do with the birth of Jesus. I have celebrated with the giving of gifts, carolling et al and it is a good time.
