Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

This is, perhaps, one of the best points I've seen made about any argument/discussion I've seen on ECGN recently. I flip-flop between caring more for humans or caring more for animals, but this point is so right-on and is something that people tend to forget, including myself.
Humans have the propensity to perform evil actions. Animals do not. Anytime we see an animal act in an "evil" manner it is only because we have applied the concept to their actions.
So, what's my point? Feed the homeless TO the penguins!

"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them."

Who were the ones attacking relief workers after Katrina? Who were the ones shooting at them? Who were the ones looting?
Makes me wonder why anyone would reach out a hand to people when people are the ones who bite the hands that feed them.

Honestly, I can't bring myself to give two fucks about homeless people. They're mostly crackheads and/or alchoholics anyway.
Wow. Stereotype much? Your compassion is astounding.

My brother thanks you for being glad he lost everything he couldn't fit in his car when he fled NO. The place he worked was destroyed as well, if not for his family he might be homeless at this point. Then you would just nonchalantly call him a crackhead who deserves less than some bird in some zoo in some country on the other side of the world that you heard about on some website.
The really depressing thing is you are not atypical.

You are applying the american situation to the world as a whole. It might be the case that homeless people in america are at fault for there situation (I don't incidentaly belive they are though) but it sure as hell isn't the fault of the starving people in the third world for being where they are. You can't honestly believe that millions of people ar starving to death because they are lazy can you?

A "circumstance" doesn't have to be one of starving people or homeless people. It can be a number of things. Just because I put it in this thread doesn't mean the quote was written for homeless people, it dates back to the 1800's. Apply it to any circumstance with few exceptions.
But like you said millions of people are starving for where they are and since they aren't lazy, why not move to a different place? *sarcasm*
As for the homeless people in American. If their home wasn't taken from them from some type of misfortune then they had to have put themselves in the situation they are in. As for the homeless in my town. They find money, they buy booze, they get drunk, they find money, they buy......and so on.

You could also use this logic:
ALL humans are animals
NOT all animals are humans
EDIT: Sorry to move this away from the homeless vs animal thing. Moving along now...

If i were born in another country, one that is so poor, third world-ish, i would be so outta there. Even if it meant me hiking over mountains eating berries and leaves for survival.
As for Katrina vicims.. first of all, I would have been outta there too. No matter what. The only thing that would have stopped me is if i were cripple and even then i would have secured some kind of ride. I sure as hell wouldn't have stayed behind to loot dvd players and tv's.
BTW, i think girls reply about katrina was not directed at the victims but more about how she may think it was caused by global warming and this event may open up some eyes.

i think we're all aware that the climate is warming. where people differ in opinion is, what is causing it. i dont think wiping out New Orleans and the Gulf coast is opening any significant amount of eyes cosidering that hurricane specialists by and large attribute the increased frequency of the storms to a "cycle."
in one thread she admonishes someone for making references to the holocaust and Gulags. but in this thread, it seems it's ok to condone the destruction of people's lives by natural disaster, no matter what the cause of it is. but by golly, save that godamn penguin no matter what!
