Ok, ummmm, if your in Chicago, you have the same grass types as PA, so yes the drought did damage to your lawn, went happened last year because of the drought stress, and compacted soil, the root system in your lawn was not able to recover. Also last season at least in PA, we had a bad Grub problem, if you don't know grubs are the larvae form of the colorful beetles you see chewing your landscape in May, they mate and in August the grub starts to chew on your root system and if not controled, in the fall you can roll your lawn up like a carpet. So to get the lawn back in shape, use a garden hoe (rake) to rake up the bare spots that you have, by a good quality grass seed (usually a good seed is about 1 buck a pound)......5000 square ft of lawn cost about 20 bucks to reseed, now cover the newly seeded area with peat moss, using this will keep the water level in, and protect it from the birds

Lawn care for do it yourselvers is the same cost of having a company come out and do it, besides the service we offer is fool proof, if you get weeds or having issues we can come out at no charge inbetween apps, at the same time if a disease hits your lawn we cover that too, do it yourself, you would have to buy another product to control that.

http://www.trugreen.com

go to that web site, put in your zip, and see how much you could save, and all you have to do is cut the lawn each cut at 3"'s, and never bag the clippings, once a week

Doug

PS how long does it take to cut your lawn, do you push it, or ride it????

I'll tell you the cost today!!!!

I push, maybe takes 45 mins. Des Plaines, IL

I always do grub ex and have never had a grub problem before. My lawn was always pretty good. i always do grub ex twice a year. The back is ok as we have lots of big trees so the back survived, but the front is mostly really bad, I'll take a pic during the day for you.

Front yard and the parkway are what needs some work.

Grub X blows, we use merit which is a more powerful form of the grub X.....Active ingred. in grub X is .01, active ingred. in Merit is .1, alot more bang for your buck, it it goes down in May, June, July to protect from the Grubs that will feed on your roots in mid August, if we apply and you get activity of grubs in August we reapply it, if that do damage to your root system in October, we reseed that at no charge......Cost for your lawn is 40 bucks an app, 65 bucks one time for the Grub prevention, $305.00 plus tax for the whole yr, its less then a buck a day to get those root systems healthy, the lawn greened up, the weeds all gone, the surface insects under control, the grubs taking care off, and preventing the crabgrass from germanating, and its pay as you go, or a 5 % prepayment off option.
