I am suprised that you would be having any heat issues with no overclocking being done.

Well, I blew some dust off (as expected). I really couldn't see any dust before I cleaned the computer.
The heat was coming from both the CPU and Video card. Both seemed pretty hot. Since heat rises, I assume the video card was increasing the hot air aound the CPU. I didn't touch anything since the computer was running. I could tell the heat eminating from the CPU/GPU it was excessivly hot just by sticking my hand near both components.
The room temperature was probably 72 - 75 F. I didn't have the AC on, or the windows in my room open. It certainly wasn't 90.
I had a tech reseat the CPU (long story). When asked, he confirmed that he cleaned the CPU and applied a thermal paste. (I did not check).
I am a bit suprised. One would think stock cooling with the sie of the case off, would keep everything running at the proper temperature. I was having similar video problems with the case closed. Once I took the side off, the problem seemed to disappear.. until now. That's one reason I think it is a heat problem.

The CPU temp (45C) is completely normal. If you told me it was 60C I would start to get concerned. I find it odd that the mobo temp is 39C. I have an ASUS mobo and the sensor is on the lower right corner of the mobo so it is usually not that different from room temperature because the front intake fans are very near.
I don't think it is a heat issue with the CPU. From what I have read about video cards, they can run normally at quite a bit hotter than CPUs. The mobo temp I find odd. Do you know where the sensor is? What mobo do you have?

if you have a dusty room or house (moreover with pets like cats or dogs) try to lift the tower from ground level to 10 to 20 cm above ground level. the dust inside will be reduced a lot.
the air flow inside a tower is one of biggest problems especially when you have a lot of components attached. make sure, that there is a air intake at the bottom (best with an attached fan blowing cold air inside) and one or two fans right behind the cpu, which blow the hot air out of the tower. cooling the hd's with another fan is not bad either (reducing the temperature by 10 degrees doubles round about their lifespan).
if you want to buy a new case, look at the chieftec towers. their layout is very clever, with removable hd-cases and easy to change 5 1/4 slots. you're able to attach 7 fans for cooling, so heat should not be a problem.
btw, use round cables for connecting the hd's and dvd/cd, cause the flat cables disturb the air flow inside a tower a lot.
use lacing cords to bind several cables together, so that the air flow is not hindered.

Same x800 series, did you check the end of you graphics card, make sure its actually cooling and not full of dust.
Your going to have to take it out of the agp/ pci slot.

After blowing the dust out. I booted BF2 and played for about 15 - 20 min. Alt-Tab out and checked temps.
CPU 51, MB 45. Haven't found temps for the video card yet. Think I might get a new case with several 120 mm fans. Not sure the wife will be too happy about that.
We do have a couple of cats. I try to keep them out of my room. I don't think I can lift my case off the floor more than 2 inches. It's under the desk and that's all the room I have between the case and the desktop. (I don't really want to stick my tower case on top of my desk).
I've actuallly been thinking about buying this case for a while. Maybe it's the right time to get it.

Hmm.. I don't know if I'd buy that case. If you're having heat issues I don't think putting the PS at the bottom of a case is the smartest move. Heat rises.. you get where I'm going with this?
In respect to overheating problems: air movement, not necessarilly simply air circulation, is what you want to solve them. Fresh cool air drawn in and hot air dispelled out. To draw air in and have it circulate isn't necessarilly going to fix an overheating problem.

True that, off topic but I have a dehumidifier a dog and a cat, setting it on a stool like stopped 90% of the hair and stuff getting sucked into it.

I've heard pro's and con's for taking the side of the case off. It would seem that with the side of the case OFF that would be the maximum cooling possible... right??
I think if you had several fans blowing on the components that would cool it as well, so... really good air flow in a closed case might be better than a case with it's side removed... right??

No definatly leave the sides on, it is better to have the air flowing through the case. If the sides are off the air just kinda comes in, but it is just the same air sucking in. and really with the side off it doesn't really suck the air it just kinda blows it around. This discussion reminds me of the mythbusters when they built the "jet pack" and they were saying without the cowlings around the fan blades the air has no velocity or direction. same applies with the fans in the case i would think.

in the summer i have the side off an a 12 inch fan blowing into the tower, because i know that the ati 9800 runs hotter than their older cards,i do have central air but my pc room is up in my office which tends to still be warmer than the rest of the house.

I'm with you rseven.. my office is hotter than the rest of the house. Blowing the dust off seemed to solve my problems (knock on wood). I guess I need to dust off my computer on a weekly basis, instead of monthly.

My computers stays at or under 90F even after 3 hours of straight gameplay with this case.

I did a quick google search and couldnt find the exact model, but if you get a Nikao case (usually 40-70 bucks, similar to this one, with a top and side case fan..i don't think youll have heat problems.)

I appreciate the suggestions. I still want a new case. One that is cool and QUITE. I don't know if you can have a cool and quite case, but that's what I'm looking for. More fans = more noise, but cooler temperatures.
I stopped looking for cases about a month ago. I have too many other priorities now. Taxes set me back...
