Might be getting a new comp...

Postby Chin_Sack » Mon Apr 17, 2006 12:51 pm

An there is something I would like to know.

How much of a performence upgrade is useing
320GB Performance RAID 0 (2 x 160GB SATA HDDs w/ Native Command Queuing)
compaired to useing just a
80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (10000RPM)?

Yes, this is gunna be a Dell XPS600. I know theres other companys out there. But Dell has a better price range. An I dont know jack about putting a comp togeather. Heres the specs I am looking at right now.

Pentium® 4 Processor 660 with HT Technology (3.60GHz, 800 FSB)
Dual 256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) nVidia GeForce 6800
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 4 DIMMs
320GB Performance RAID 0 (2 x 160GB SATA HDDs w/ Native Command Queuing)

There other stuff I am getting with it, but thats all the performence stuff. I can only spend 2500$ on this.

An is there a performence difference between Windows Home XP an Windows XP Pro?

I still got a week or morer befor I know if I will be able to get this. Just trying to work out all my options while i can.
Thanks guys....

Uh, try out cyberpowerpc

Its a dell, c'mon. Are you doing it for the payment plan, or have you just always bought through dell?

Ow ya, whats your budget.

Edit, OWWWWWWWWWWWW.

2500 eh, uh, don;t get a dell, there a million places out thee, you could get a lot more, with a lot less, if you know what i'm saying.

If its 2500, one of those 150 gig raptors, there suppost to smoke two 74 gig in raid, vs a single 150.

Serious though, 15/17 TOP right now.

Your throwing away money with that XpS if your serously considering it "which i think you are"

Shame on you for going with dell.

Dellienware anybody?

A 74GB Raptor will perform just as fast as a 150GB Raptor - they are the same speed, just one is double the size. 74GB Drives in a RAID0 will perform faster than a single 150GB drive.

I am lookin at cyberpowerpc, its just there so much to pick from. an I am easaly confused LOL.

I like what I see. I just dont know what overkill, an whats works well with what. I dont want to go overboard on the innerds.

Just like to play my high end games so they look pritty. Instead of the crap I have to play at now.

Like with BF2, I get nice pings, just my FPS is like 12-22. 28 depending on the map.

Plus when I play FEAR, everything is as low as posible. An HL2, DOD:S, an CS:S. I can play them. Just the FPS seems to be sluggish. Well not with DOD os CS as much.

I really want to try out this duel video card stuff. Plus, this isnt my money anywho. Its my mothers LOL. So..."I" am not loseing any money.

A nother thing about cyberpowerpc, they dont have in home repairs. I would have to ship the whole thing back to get it fixed.

An that is not an option.....

This is just my 2 cents, so take it for what it's worth.

Dell's a fine company and I've even considered ordering from them, but I think you can get a lot more for your money if you look elsewhere.

Dell currently only sells Intel processors. Everyone agrees an equivlant AMD system beats an Intel, especially in gaming.

You don't need to run an SLI configuration. Some games actually run slower with two cards. I'm not totally convinced it isn't a marketing scheme to make people buy more cards. My advice buy one good high end card and use the money somewhere else (say more RAM).

Two advantages of XP Professional over XP Home. 1) Better security (which you probably won't need) and 2) the ability to access up to 4 GB of RAM. (again, you probably won't need this either).

That's my 2 cents.

Seriosuly consider building your own. it is easy, I taught myself how to do it years ago.

If you can put a puzzle together, a PC isn't much harder. In fact, the only hard part is the heatsink over the CPU(depending on type of HS).
