. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that motorcycle helmets reduce the likelihood of a crash fatality by 37 percent.1 Norvell and Cummings found a 39 percent reduction in the risk of death after adjusting for age, gender, and seat position.2 Helmets are highly effective in preventing brain injuries, which often require extensive treatment and may result in lifelong disability. In the event of a crash, unhelmeted motorcyclists are three times more likely than helmeted riders to suffer traumatic brain injuries.1

Hello.. do you really need a study to tell you that wearing a helmet makes for safer biking?
Hypothetical situation:
I have a hammer in my hand.. A nice 12 oz. clawed hammer. I'm going to take this hammer and smack you in the head with it. Hard. Now you have two choices.
Choice A. You wear no helmet, and think, 'bring the pain because I'm the missing link and my forhead is stronger than steel and 2 inches thick.'
Choice B. I'm wearing a helmet because I'm a Homo Sapien and my brain is the most important organ in my body - in terms of enjoying and comprehending life, that is. Because I realize that without a brain I'm just a vegetable who will need help eating, sitting up and yes, even taking a shit.

Helmet laws, whether putting one in place or repealing one, smells more like a politician's soapbox than anything else.
It's like a case of Mothers-Against-Helmetless-Motorcyclists when one of thier sons dies or is injured when riding without a helmet. They go on a crusade. If I'm a politician, I eat that up. Who doesn't want to vote for a guy who's trying to save thier sons?
I am not trying to say that riding without a helmet is the smartest thing to do. Of course a helmet is going to save you from possible injury or death. That's common sense. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out. I rode a motorcycle and I wore a helmet most of the time. Did I ever ride without one? Yes. Sure! It was great! But I chose certain situations when I did and didn't wear one. I didn't need somebody to hold my hand as an adult and tell me whats good for me.
Did you know the #1 cause of injury and death in automobile accidents is head injuries? With this thinking.. they should pass a law to make us wear helmets in our cars. Would you wear one?

Get busy livin' !
No it is called a multimillion dollar contract you are pissing away.
Common sense tells you to WAIT UNTIL YOU RETIRE.
Please do nto compare walking out a front door to riding a motorcycle. I have no problems with motorcycles, but to ignore the increased chances of a serious injury while riding one is silly, especially comparing it to walking out the front door.

They have, it is called a seatbelt. Why do you think they are now law to wear in most states(unless the feds made it law in all states, which most likely has already happened)?
So, seeing as how a seatbelt is law for safety, why shouldn't a helmet be?
You kinda walked into this one, you know. Thought you had a point about a helmet in a car when that is the point of a seat belt(and even for the rest of your body, not just the head).
Then there are airbags. Even more protection mandated on new cars.

Even with seatbelts... the #1 injury in auto's are injuries to the head. (that's just the stats).
Also, from what I have read and I am not an expert, airbags are not mandatory. You can actually disengage (disable) your airbags if you wanted to.

Should i take it as a insult or complment cauz ohio as a very vgood shcool distract unlike columbus schools. But Olnetangty is very good
1. He had no drivers liscense.
2. He had no helmet (dumb i know, but thats his decision)
3. He had a a multi-million dollar contract
4. He had an obligation to HONOR that contract by staying physically fit and in condition to play for the Steelers
5. Although the "verbage" in the contract does not state he can't ride a motorcycle w/ or w/out helmet, his actions clearly broke statements 3 and 4.
6. His insurance is probably worked out through the NFLPA, so he's taken care of.
7. Jimmy was right.

The point is there are safety features in place, by law, in a car. Seat belts and airbags are mandatory inside new cars. They have to have them to be sold.
Being able to turn off an airbag is also a safety feature, as in certain cases an airbag will cause a problem.
Most states, if not all, make it mandatory to wear a seatbelt while driving. In Ohio, it is the front seats(driver, passenger or middle).
A helmet is obviously a safety feature like a seat belt or air bag. I have no problem if a state, or even the feds, making it mandatory to wear.

While I wear a seatbelt and a helmet...always well except for eating cheeseburgers. And I think you should wear your seatbelt and helmet. But where does the government get off making me do it. It doesn't hurt anyone but me if I don't wear it. It doesn't violate someone else's rights WTF???
