Prepare for a performance hit with VIsta...

Postby Bromsin » Fri Jun 16, 2006 9:43 am

Looks like all games will probably lose some FPS when using Vista. Granted this is just beta 2 but lets face facts. The stupid OS is going to take away some graphics power.

I subscribe to the if it aint broke dont fix it when it comes to OS. I will run XP for a while before I switch over unless it ends up being something that I cant live without.

yea, got a few more years of support with XP so no plan to go to Vista until XP support ends or Vista is majorly changed to reduce the video hogging.. I beleive all support stops in 2009 for XP. Not positive though, its either 2009 or 2011

Honeslty I think it will always perform slower. Its going to take away graphic power, which is going to reduce what you have for your games. I dont give a crap how good my desktop looks I want performance in games not my desktop.

Hell I dont even use the XP theme I use the classic desktop.

With today's technologies if you're worried about your desktop taking power away from your graphics, then you have other issues you need to work out on your PC :)

Just like Evan stated, its only a BETA platform. You have to look at the final product to actually judge the performance. I don't personally plan on getting Vista either, because I am also under the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality.

But watch out for those dastardly game developers, wait until someone releases a DirectX 10 "only" game and watch the fury over that!

Any OS that requires minimum 128mb Directx9 compatible vid card to run is going to take some performance away from games. There is noway it wont.

[sarcasm] Yeah, but Vista Minesweeper is going to look so sweet with all the cool glass-like textures and how you can rotate the playing the field and all that... nice! And it'll only require a gig of ram to play! [/sarcasm]

Stop picking on his Commodore 64. It's a perfectly robust platform, even by today's standards. :rotflmao:

What Evan said... and No I'm not biased because Evan designed my Signature. ;)

I'm not saying Vista will improve gaming performance, but it is only a Beta release.
