Have played Basketball and Baseball. Was best at Baseball then got lots of tournament trophies to show including a state runner up one. Postions: Catcher, Pitcher, 2nd base, and outfield. Needless to say I was pretty damn good. When it came time to get serious into the sport I started meeting some real JackAss coaches that kinda ruined the sport for me.
Currently I get my rounds of Golf in here and there, but I am in Bowling (yes it's a sport, and don't try and argue it). Currently carry about a 185-190 average. My buddy and I just recently placed 5th in the state of Michigan for a doubles tournament in scratch competition. Played a couple years of softball too that's some fun stuff.

If you can drink beer while participating, it's not a competitive sport. So golf and bowling while drinking don't count as competitive sports, but recreational ones. Softball may or may not be a competitive sport, depending upon the league. The exception is if you're playing for money.

This was the last year I was able to be in the youth league (no drinking, smoking or cash rewards). I also played for my highschool until i graduated. This next season I have to join an adult league, which they may allow alcohol, but you can still win money for doing good. Also try telling everyone in the PBA that it isn't a competitive sport ya douche. As I said don't argue with me on this... They are sports. Also try telling everyone in the PGA that golf isn't a sport, and then I hope you are current on your health insurance.

Also why aren't you saying anything about softball then?... they let you drink beer while playing.

i have wrestled since third grade. come from a family of wrestlers oldest brother did so in a small college. in fifth grade started football. did both till high school ended. planned for football to continue but i f@#$ed it up being very young and dumb. since i have picked up basketball and enjoy it very much. i also have coached football up to a varsity level in a high school. BTT i agree with you on your thought on the game and relating to sports. i never played baseball i wish i would have i think i may have been ok at it.
i think a sport should be defined as any thing where YOU can phyisically affect the out come of the game. so golf, bowling, and darts are sports. but sadly nascar and horse racing are not sports. polo is. you can drink bear playing any sport it just may not be good for you to do so.

There are several softball tournament teams that I've played with that are A-Level (many of the guys are paid to play and are ranked nationally) where the players regularly partake. Also, there are many documented cases of professional athletes who have performed after partaking... So...as a general statement, it does not apply...
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in the boat and drink beer all day...

Well my theory may still stand. More Athletes here then I though. I guess that is one reason ECGN is a great place to play online games. I guess being made to go across the field/mat/court to shake the hands of your opponent after the fact and regardless of outcome to say good game goes a long way in life.

I also have a theory about gaming and organized sports. Basically I think a lot of people they play video games didn't play sports growing up. Hence the major amount of smacktardism. Sportsmanship is something that is taught and not really pick up. Although I think ECGN might shoot this theory down. I am guessing there will be more votes for no then yes.

i think those who have played sports play games with a sense of fair play. that is what sports teach, more then just a game. they teach you about yourself and those around you that you can count on.
when i am on the ground , jeep or in a boat and i get bombed or choppter killed it really does not make me feel bad i actually feel good that whomever is pilot took time to get me instead of getting same class targets. plane vs plane chop vs chop and so on. sometimes it makes me very mad when i get killed in a quaility manner or by a player who has skill, but i know that the other person got me legit. on the other side it makes me feel good when i get a quality player
what made me in bf2 feel really good was in the middle of battle in karkand was seeing one of the most prolific knife weliding asssaissins on ecgn and pulling my knife out to knife fight and win. [i got a screenie too]
above all else sports teaches sportsmanship and it can not be defined it is what it is sportsmanship.
