I work for APC so I have a bunch of their stuff.
Years ago I used to host a CS server. One night I was playing and the power goes out. No big deal I am pluged into a UPS. We keep playing and after an hour or so the UPS batteries start to get low. I look around and see another UPS so I unplug the first one from the wall and plug it into the next UPS. That one starts to get low so I do it again and again. At the end of the night I had 5 UPS's daisy chained together. The power was out for about 6 hours and the server never went down. Wife and kids were pissed as they could not watch TV or anything put I could play CS!

I had a $1,000 DVD player get hit by lightning a few years ago and they asked me to send in my surge protector with my claim. They ended up not paying the claim due to the fact that the surge protector was not damaged in any way. I lost several other items at the same time in other parts of the house on different systems and ended up making a claim against my home owners insurance.
Good Luck!
