Jesus, I had a big ol 5th grader fall on me at recess when I was in first grade. All I did was cry to my teacher. She just told me that it will be ok and to sit down for a while. Hell we would tackle each other playing football or push one another to the ground playing tag. Thats what your supposed to do as kids.

What the hell happened to the days where parents would let their child stick a fork in a socket to let them see what will happen and ask em if they want to do it again?

Actualy, a lot of schools are getting rid of recess and people wonder why we are getting so fat?

In fifth grade we had a kid break him arm at recess. We were playing "kill the guy with the ball" or "schmeer the queer" or whatever you call the game where you all go after one person with the ball. If my memory servers me right. We didn't stop playing it that year. Only the guy that broke him arm stopped. His family didn't sue the school. No action was taken. And none was needed. He was the only person I ever remember getting hurt at recess in my elementary days. The kids that might have or could have gotten hurt (the small or weak ones) just looked for four leaf clovers in the grass. They saw the risk and chose not to take it. But a kid needs to make these choices or find out the hard way on there own if they are ever gonna be a productive member of society.

It's all a sham to avoid the larger issues--nearly every form of government is this way now. Spend $4-5000 per student yet they can't read? Shift the focas toward playground safety! Kids parents aren't around or aren't willing to mold their kids into decent human beings, and then these kids go on to commit acts of violence? Blame it on video games!
It's always so much easier than solving the real problems.

Have to disagree with the reading part at least here, I know it's a huge part of Michigan curriculum, but you are correct on lack of parental involvement, I think that could be why so many students struggle with reading as well.

LOL. we played that back in the mid 70's, called it 'Smear the Queer' Even the teachers would refer to the game as 'Smear the Queer'
It sure was a different world back then!

When we were away from adults we would play a really twisted game where we took turns throwing a knife at each other's feet. See who could come the closest, who would flinch. Sticking the knife in the other guy's foot was an instant loss. Kinda tough way to be the 'winner' though, getting a jackknife stuck in your foot.

As retarded as it is, we didn't turn into a generation of serial killers, and we certainly didn't die off from accidents.

Lol cavy i saw that and was thinking, hmm and he is talking about kids not being able to read. See whats different now it seems is that parents are really too overprotective of their kids such as things like suing for somthing like geting hurt at school. Yet when they are home and the kid does somthing bad they beat this shit out of their kid, how is that any different. So yeah i definatly think that children these days are weaker, and need to play these games to learn the "hard way".
