From what i've heard, they put a lot of resources behind the PS3 and BlueRay stuff... and its hurt them really bad. i was exagerating a bit but it is a lot of people who need to purchase the PS3 for them to break even.
Japan has a weird economy where several companies own other companies and they support and prop up the ones that are failing... so who knows where Sony will fit in.

not gonna bother with the PS3 just like I didn't bother with the Xbox360. I have my gaming PC's and that's where my heart is. The enjoyment I get out of a PC far exceeds any console.

Sony has been hit hard lately due to numerous bad business decisions.
BR players being twice HD DVD players retail prices, their new 1080P sets advertised to accept 1080P signals but do not, constant delays with the PS3, getting BR players out on time, small release of BR movies, PS2 system and game sales slowing with expected releases of new consoles, etc, etc, etc.
Plus, many of the stuff they sell is now just crap. Their DVD players are crap(unless getting their ES line), some with receivers, speakers, entry level TVs, remotes, etc, etc, etc.
They are basically the Ford/GM of the electronics world right now. Got way to full of themselves, cut quality, over promised, under delivered and now need to hit numerous grand slams just to tie the ball game.
