OK I tested this out..
1. Did a clean install of Vista
2. Downloaded the latest video drivers (NVIDIA)
3. Installed Wolf from CD
4. Ran 1.4 (full) update
5. Ran 1.41 update
Note: You don't have to do steps 4 and 5 if you have Platinum Edition
6. Ran PBSetup (to update Punkbuster)
http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.exe7. Fired up Wolf
8. Enabled Punkbuster and connected to server.
Got failed Pure Check...Hmm alrighty then...also noticed shrubmod folder wasn't automatically created, so I figured I didn't have write permission to the RTCW folder, even as an Administrator! OK..so I gave all Users all permissions to that folder and manually created a shrubmod folder. Still didn't work, so I edited the Wolf Multiplayer shortcut and added +set fs_game shrubmod to the end of the command line)
9. Conected to server, no Pure failure this time...but...kicked by Punkbuster for Inadequate O/S privileges (Thought to myself, OK am I an Administrator or not?!)
10. Went into the Control Panel , under User Accounts, clicked on my account type..says I'm an Administrator...(must not actually mean Administrator anymore. I think the new interpretation of the word is limited user who gets prompts out the ass, just to find that even after allowing things, you still don't have the permission to use them. Nice)
11. Turned off UAC (User access Controls)..This basically takes you back to the XP version of an Administrator.
12. Fired up RTCW, worked fine, no errors, no crashes, and of course...no good frame rates either.
So, if you want to save yourself some headaches, do step 11 first (turn off UAC), then do steps 2-8. If you really feel you want/need UAC turned on, do up to step 8, then follow the directions in this thread for setting up the Local Policies for Punkbuter to work:
