Correct me if im wrong, but isnt kidnapping another nations military personnel an act of war? The Iranian excuse that they were in Iranian waters is bullshit, they were in Iraqi waters ffs!!!

LoL m8 they might have been in iraqui water but I'm not buying the whole we were just inspecting this unmarked vessel line that's being pumped around. Looks to me like we got caught with the proverbial pants down doing a little a little clandestine bird watching.

That said if they don't treat those guys right then bring the fucking noise....

Now Iran is thinking of officially charging the sailors with something. I think they've either overestimated their position or underestimated the UK's situation. The US may be somewhat bogged down in Iraq, but the UK is still ready to roll.

maybe i haven't hear of it all that much, and I don't have cable so i'm not seeing it either, but you guys in the UK.. .are you protesting in the streets, burning Iranian flags, attacking the Iran embassy in the hopes of showing your displeasure of the Iranians holding your boys?

Yea I would like to know what the deal is. Since we don't have any news on TV here in the U.S. Are they giving them back or are you gonna go GET them back?

They want to charge them with tresspassing in Iranian waters. However any military action would have to be now, Blair is going to step down in a couple of months, and whoever becomeas the next leader of the Labour party and Prime Minister won't want to take military action for nothing short of an invasion of the UK given the current exetreme unpopularity of the war in Iraq and the fact that they would have a struggle anyway to get elected in 2-3 years time. The public wouldn't even support military action to rescue our own troops, most of us have lost all sense of honour and duty.

Iran keeps digging itself a deeper and deeper hole...

Everyone these days expects the West to follow the WWII model of rebuilding your enemy after war. If Iran were to do the unthinkable, they could find out about pre-WWII style warfare. No rebuilding, no help, just wreck some stuff and leave them to deal with the aftermath. Britain might not be up for a full scale invasion/occupation, but believe the Brits could easily run a minor two week airstrike campaign without breaking a sweat.

Imagine life in Tehran if the UK hit 20 biggest electrical power plants, the 20 biggest sewerage stations, a few of the biggest bridges, airports & runways. Sixty or seventy targets hit would make life in the modern parts of Iran an absolute misery (no running water, no electricity, impeded travel and shipping) for a few years. All this because they want to play 'tough guy' with 15 sailors. Like I say, they better not mistake their relative position in all of this. It would make like more miserable for US in Iraq (the whole shiite thing) but I can't see the UK taking this kind of crap.

^^ hence thier desire for a nuke or two? Once they have that.. kinda makes you rethink the whole "punish Iran" thing. As they dangle the nukes over Israel.. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, etc.

Trust me Cav, were even more tied up than the US. Our army has gone to shit under the labour government. We may not be to tied up in Iraq, but were heavily commited in Afghanistan, there is still a war going on there. Britain might aswell be singlehandedly holding off the taliban, we sent more troops there and a couple of months ago, and our supposed coalition allies refused to. Britain is the onjly country that has actual commited combat troops there, every other nations troops have orders to only fire if they are fired upon. Our troops run out of supplies regularly and go above and beyond the call of duty, no thanks to our supposed allies.

Also thanks to massive cut backs in military spending (thats down to the governments of the past 28 years, which is only 3 govs) we only have 24 frigates of the line, no assault ships, what was the greatest navy in the world has been turned into a floating joke. What was one of the most prestigeous and best airforces in the world is a flying circus. And as for the army, theres not even enough body armor for every soldier, guns that jam with sand, not enough heavily armored vechiles and not even enough helicopters to keep up supply lines. Not to mention the fact that our army is 4,000 troops short of what experts say it should be, and even then its too small. So how the fuck are we going to deal with Iran on our own? The USA is obligated to join Britain in any action against Iran, we followed them into Iraq, the least they could do is help us bomb Iran a bit.

Are you guys really talking about bombing cities because 15 soldiers were captured in what may still turn out to be Iranian waters? :P

Because if you are, we'll have to put a warning sign on this thread: "Reading this may damage your IQ".

But I'm sure you're only joking. You should put smileys in your posts.

See this face  this is my serious face.

I am completely serious, and how can think for a second the Iranians are telling the truth...

1)The UK sailors would have only been confronted by 1 or 2 Iranian patrol boats, not 6 carrying lots of armed soldiers.

2)They were captured the day before more the UN was to vote on more sanctions against Iran. Iran was clearly trying to make a point.

3) Who are you going to believe?
