Extreme Makeover in my town
One of my wife's favorite shows (ok, ok, I watch it with her) is Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and wouldn't you know it - they're in my town this week.
The house is about 6 miles down the road from mine. Pretty wild.
There is a chance yours truely will be on the show. They're planning on filming at my hospital tomorrow, and a bunch of us had to sign photo/video release forms. The father of the family who won was an RN who got stuck with on needle on the job, contracted Hepatitis C, and died (hence the filming at the hospital).
Just thought I'd share the news with you guys! There's a LOT of media hype and buzz around here. Local radio stations are camped out on the property. 1,500 people have signed up as volunteers. It's pretty exciting.
The episode is due to air in 6-8 weeks. You'll have to watch for me!

I'll have some pictures, yes, but not from within the house. Part of the document we signed stated cameras, camcorders, cell phone cameras, etc. are all prohibited on site. Cameras are allowed in the spectator area, however.
Everyone on the crew is super cool. And yes, Ty really IS that hyper ALL the time. Ha!

I could not imagine the chaos. I frame houses for a living and I hate it when the two plumbers or electricians are there. You just trip all over each other. Add 20 more people.
Thankfully 90% of the time it is just me and my crew of five.

Re: Extreme Makeover in my town
Tony you just hate plumbers:P
I took a job on a new house to have it ready in 2 months so they could move in. BIG mistake! Like Tony said people where always in the way of others. The only good thing was they paid 3 times the going prices to have it done fast.

Yeah, add AT LEAST 20 more people. It was crazy.... framers hamering, electricians running wire, plumbers running pipe, HVAC guys running ducts, drywallers, mudding, taping, painters, designers, windows, carpeting, tiles, kitchen cabinets, fireplace, landscaping, driveway, sprinkler system, new lawn, concrete columns, playground stuff in the backyard, electronic guys setting up cable TV, home theater, internet, telephone, etc....all going at it pretty much at the same time!
Don't forget a couple of camera crews running around filming everything. Then there's catering - gotta feed all these people. Trucks constantly coming and going with dumpsters and supplies. Crowd control - tons of people line the streets to watch. Heck - they even ran a street sweeper down the road last night for all the mud and crap on the street from the big trucks coming and going!
It's quite an ordeal...a logistical nightmare. They've done this enough times now, though, to have gotten pretty good at it. It's quite a spectacle!
Despite what they say on the show, they actually build in less than 1 week...this project actually had 106 hours of build time.

And 110 hours until pipes start leaking, Spackle starts cracking, fuses start tripping.

Re: Extreme Makeover in my town
Actually, yes, they have done some follow-up episodes. It's more along the lines of how the family is doing...
Let's hope these houses stay together!
The houses are supposed to come with a warranty by the builder, by the way, soo..... <shrug>
