Changing maps when admins are on instead of a rotation would be fine if there were a few more admins that were on regularly (not afk in spec, not mastery) and if we actually went to some of the better maps like frostbite and tundra (which can actually sustain a lot of people unlike most maps) except we never play those maps for some reason. Maybe it's because a lot of people don't have them... but I think if you look at UFO, most people didn't have that map until a week ago and the last time we played it there were 40+ on.

Yes, I changed it to something like base2 the other night and half the server got the boot. Not everyone reads the forums but plz people download the maps or set allowdownload to 1 and go get a snack. As for admins in spec I don't know who it's directed at :) but I sit in spec a good bit because i'm either playing another game on other pc or I'm watching a movie. But I come in to sit in spec for one of three reasons. To switch maps for you all till I'm rdy to play, to watch for trouble makers, or just to let people see there is an admin on. It's like a fake camera in a store. It might not be on but people don't know that and are too scared to take the chance to steal. FYI paco has a gun but also has a knife, don't get too close.

With or without a rotation you people will never be happy. Admins change the maps but yet people still complain. If its on beach you complain. Alot of you are new to ECGN do to the fact your server has died out. ECGN is still around for a reason. Don't expect it to change to satisfy you when it has been doing good without you for yrs. I am changing maps from about 10pm to 2am est during the week. Rotation has been tried several times and didn't work. Just because this is one of the last full servers doesn't mean people will stick around to play other maps. They leave and do other things, play other games, sit in specs till beach is back or they leave and come back when they see its back on beach. ECGN rents servers if its that important to have a constant rotation. Why fix something that isnt broke. I don't understand what the big deal is and why this hasn't been locked.

A one-two rotation of Beach and Depot wouldnt lose any people and would offer a little variety. I would throw Destruction into the mix except it gets too crowded to enjoy once there are more than 20 people on.

macabre you do a good job of changing maps along with superpuzzy and sometimes ms.b and i would like to thank you.
i would just like to say that you will never hear me complaining about a different map as long as it's not a custom map (custom meaning unofficial maps). not enough people have custom maps and it kills the server. so i would just like to suggest rotating only to stock maps and maps in the goty pack. for instance, last week the map was changed to market garden and then base2. i had neither of those maps and have never played them so i had to google for downloads of them since downloading from the server is too slow. and since filefront has just shut down it makes finding maps difficult.

That was the only thing that ET did better than rtcw, the link to external downloads for maps meant you could literally download a new map in under a minute without having to wait for ages for 11kb/s to feed you a map

Apparently this website offers a solution to that problem, the solution is called RTCW Map Downloader and here is the explanation for it

Contrary to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Return to Castle Wolfenstein doesn't support HTTP Downloads in-game. This is where this little application comes in handy. It's a lightweight tool, written in .NET that automatically closes down the game, downloads the map from HTTP and afterwards reconnects you to the server you were playing on.

It works on all versions of RtCW, including 1.0, 1.33 and 1.4, as long as the in-game download system is enabled on both client and server.

I can't test it as I'm running linux right now, any one care to try it and see if its legit
