If they don't have a server then they have no business using this script and like I said in one of my previous posts they can simply PM me either their email address or phone number and carrier and I will add it to the ECGN list. They will then receive notifications from the ECGN web server by email or text depending which route they choose. I can't make it much easier than that without making a web form for them to submit their info themselves which I won't be doing.Jun1oR wrote:I will add this to the web server, so if you want to be notified of map changes you can PM me your email address for an email message or your cell phone number and carrier for a text message and I will add it to the list. I wont be doing subscribed and unsubscribe forms for this feature.
I hope I don't sound angry or upset in this post because I'm not.
Not at all to me, thanks for the great feature! Received two texts yesterday, works great :)
Re: Rotation notifier app
Bravo, bravo!
You were faster than me, I still didn't implement it. Including sms is a nice topping :> Thanks for giving the code for querying, I'll be able to use my own version with local sounds (I'll post it if anyone interested, but it's no big deal).
Nice job! (you also saved windows users :D)

I know it's archaic, but why don't you just use xfire? stick ecgn into your favorites and you can see which map we're on and who's playing.

If you're doing the dishes, your work or your gf (whatever :X), it's much more reasonable to hear a sound (get a message or anything) than to continously check xfire or any server browser. At least for me :)

It's a great feature to have when you're keen to play some RtCW. I will usually check my phone before getting on ECGN now just to see if it's anything but BEACH. If it is, I usually hop on right away.
Re: Rotation notifier app
I want to get into developing android apps so I might start working on an ECGN android app if I get some time. Any ideas?
Re: Rotation notifier app
I'm in the same boat, I feel "I should" be capable of writing stuff for Android, but have done nothing yet, nor did read a word about. This week I won't have a spare minute, but next week we can start something up if you feel you would cooperate happily. Otherwise I'll postpone it again :D
I guess a q3/et/rtcw server browser might be used by many (with notifications! :D), what about starting with that? Even if it's not strictly ecgn related...

Welcome to the club. Reason I never found the will for it is cross device bs. Android is running on pads, phones...and if you go into sophisticated project (which is what I intended) you have to bother with that. Then there's also a money question..if you just want to learn then fine, otherwise there's more money to be earned on ios applications in real world as far as selling goes.

Well, some ppl could write a couple million apps for it, some even work well. Cmoon, the www is a crossplatform app also and it works. I don't think it's hopeless xDxD

Re: Rotation notifier app
Thing is that ios works on selected and certified few while android is more generic so it's something like linux browsers, where page doesn't always look the same as well as webkit support varies even tho they're derived from same source etc. Generally if you're really trying to write something sophisticated you're more or less forced to get different devices to see how it's rendered which is basically a budget strain for indie's. Sure, ios is not perfect either but it's less bug prone in that manner. As far as whole selling idea goes, ios users are more willing to pay for apps where android users prefer more free apps.
I mean that's the conclusion I came after I done some research when I was pondering the idea to write an app, albeit it's completely subjective and naturally I had my own criteria and views.
