gfx/video card help
Hi, thought I'd post to ask if anyone could help me with a vid card issue I have. A couple of days ago I was going through my hardware trying to make sure all the drivers were up to date, and updated my vid card driver (AMD Radeon HD 5670). During the process, something crashed and I got the BSOD- so I rolled back my drivers, rebooted etc and the comp was running fine again. I tried playing COD and the fps was fine, but when I went to RTCW I had just 20fps. So I then went to the AMD site and downloaded the latest drivers for my cards hoping thinking it would fix it- I rebooted, everything appeared fine, but I loaded up RTCW again- still 20fps :( Could anyone help me out with this? Thanks :)
Re: gfx/video card help
Got it fixed! It was as simple as downloading a dll file and putting it in the wolf directory- then it just worked. Thanks guys :)
Re: gfx/video card help
I somehow have the same issue now. Can you be a little more specific on what you did magus?

the solution is in the second post of this thread....
Re: gfx/video card help
Here is a solution that was brought to my attention:
RtCW uses outdated code to maximize your gfx cards performance. Since we are all playing on advanced machines, you have to tell RtCW how to run the newer card with one simple console command.
/r_primitives 2
And that's it. You will be instantly running at max FPS.

That doesn't fix the issue with AMD cards.
Re: gfx/video card help
Seems like the r_primitives 2 bit fixed it for me but only after i used the dll file as well. Not before, cos i tried that already a week or so ago. Thanks anyway
Re: gfx/video card help
Give thanks to Jun1or. This is the fix for those running AMD/ATI Radeon Graphics Cards and encountering extremely low and stuttering FPS.
Jun1oR wrote:I suffer from this too. The way I get around it is to use an older version of atioglxx.dll from a driver before 13.9. I'm not sure if there is a supported driver for the 270X that goes back that far. I will attach the file I use myself for Win7/8. Download and extract it into your RTCW folder where "WolfMP.exe" is located and try playing the game. If this file doesn't work for you then you can try looking for an early beta driver prior to 13.9 for the 270X and use the atioglxx.dll file from there. I have contacted AMD about this issue and they don't seem to be concerned or to even want to fix it. Let me know if it works for you.

You need to have drivers sorted before you apply r_primitives. It should generally be applied when game works but you get drop to 20-10 fps in open spaces or when aiming at far objects (i.e. sky). Primitives is also agnostic..it works on amd and nvidia, but only if drivers are sorted first. Primitives is basically a texture pass. Default is 0 which is auto, auto doesn't do its work since it always sets to 1 (single pass) so you have to set it to 2 (multi pass), anything above will kill the renderer so don't bother. Also, it's not needed for all cards as some simply work but generally it doesn't hurt to set it anyway- but again, once drivers are sorted as well, otherwise it wont help.

I did not know this, thank you for posting another solution!
