Crazy Eddie says...Those prices are INSANE!!!!!!

That's ridiculous. The initial offer for a Nvidia Ultra was $499 and at 1024 x 768 it is almost identical to the 9800 Radeon...it is only at 1600 x1200 do you see a real difference...
Nvidia 5900 Radeon 9800
3DMark2003 Pro 2138 1363
(1600x1200)

3DGameGauge 3.0
(1600x1200) 69 56

(from CGW)
...I am more than willing to wait for the games to "catch up" and take full advantage of the Nvidia card....by then the price will be reasonable. Until then, my Radeon 9800 will do nicely.

Sorry, that didn't come thru the way I wanted

Yuck,

Actually the prices are very comparable between the two cards. Remember that the $499 FX5900 has 256 MB of RAM. NVidia will be releasing a 128 MB version a month later for $399 (which is the same price as the 128MB 9800). ATI intends to release a 256 MB version of their 9800 and it will be priced at $499. So really, the prices are the same - but I agree, both are VERY expensive.

yes the prices are comprable...but $900 is INSANE!!
I was able to get my Radeon 9800 for $325 about 10 months ago...which I guess wasn't too bad , considering

...Nvidia will offer a non-ultra 128MB version of teh GeForce FX 5800 for $299, which sounds reasonable....

I'm assuming you meant to say 9700, because the 9800 just came out like a month and a half ago. But yes, that was a good deal.

I'm still happy with the performance of my Ti4200. I bought it right when it came out over a year ago for $169 and it wasn't until last month that I ever saw the price drop below that. I just can't run any FSAA or AF. The Ti4200 also overclocks out the wazoo....

But I'll still probably buy a 5900 or 9800 anyway.

oops...yeah 9700 Radeon...

I will be the first to bitch about the price of the new cards... but I will also be first in line at the register!!!

I agree Freedom, I will probably end up buying one, but not for awhile...

Yep. I've got a buddy that just installed the 9700. Nice card. I like my card but would like just a little bit more high resolution power. FSAA isn't that big of a deal to me because if you can run a game at 1600x1200 it's hard to see the jagged edges anyway.
