Your First PC

I got an IBM PCjr, right before they were cancelled. At the time, I'd much rather have had a C-64, since it had such cool games. I think my specs were: 4.77Mhz, 640Kb RAM (expanded from 128Kb), two 5.25" drives, and two cartridge slots. Amazingly, the keyboard even had the ability to be wireless (via infrared).

The absolute first computer was an Atari 400 . . . it was one of the few Atari's that had a keyboard, and a tape drive. Used to write progams on it in an early implementation of BASIC.

The first PC I had was the Good 'Ol Tandy 1000 HX. 8086/4.66 Mhz/640k RAM, 200k ROM, TWO 720k 3.5" Floppies . . . . man was she a beauty at the time.

My first PC was:

Pentium 133 Mhz (non MMX)
16 MB SDRAM
1,2 GB HHD
Trident 9680 SVGA with 1MB RAM!!!
Dos 6.22 and Windows 3.11
14 inches monitor

I learned computing on mainframes. I bought my Commodore 64 in 1983. And the floppy drive 1 year later (at 300$ !). I still have the complete rig in the cupboard under my TV (I think).

There were some mean games on that tiny PC. I wrote games and utilities in BASIC and assembler. In 1985, I wrote a 2-player (by modem) strategy game with joystick input and chat screen. I believe it was a first.

Then I got a job at my present place, they had networked Apple IIEs. Holy shit I just looked at a print server I wrote in assembly language in 1988. I have no idea how I did that.

My dad went all out. Our first home computer was the Apple II+. We upgraded from 16k RAM to 64k (a $1500 upgrade), and had TWO floppies. We were rockin!!!!

All said and done I think it cost about $6000 with the upgrades. Later down the road, we also purchased the first hard drive available for those bad boys. It was a 10MB hard drive for ONLY $3,000 more!

I had the Commodore 64. I played the hell out of "Phantasy" and "Phantasy 2" and, of course, "Spy vs. Spy 1 & 2". Can't forget to mention "Dr. J and Larry Bird One-on-One".

C-64, played a lot of choplifter, loderunner, and MS FS - we actually had a cartridge word processor with some nasty old dot-matrix printer. I actually saw one at an antique store in St Peter MN before the tornado...a computer...in an antique store...and that was like 8 years ago...

my first was in 1993 was a 386 ibm think pad, 80 meg hard drive, 30 meg hertz....for only 2,500 dollars, no cd rom or a sound card....I installed a sound card fx for only 250.00 my first game was a combo pack rail road tycoon and pirates by sid maire ? (sp) the master of all games ....railroad tycoon was my favorite...some sort of bug...you set up a station and buy all the comp. out and you go in the neg. and all of of a sudden your stock sky rockets and finish as tycoon in 5 years that was a great game.....I played it almost as I do wolf

I don't know if you had them outside britain but my first computer was a bbc basic. That sweet baby was capble of running all the classics, space invaders, pong, chuckie egg and that weird one witht the litele leprechaun dude flinging around a tennis ball. Oh yes it was a superior machine

I have a copy of Railroad Tycoon which I play on occasion to this day 0-). I think I bought it circa 1995. GREAT GAME!

do any of you guys remember oregon trails? Man, I remember when I thought that game was awesome.

i had the c64 setup.....1541 floppy and dot matrix printer...
played the hell out of all the infocom games.

Yeah man the oregon trail, we had a class game of that in 5th grade. We had to choose a caravan name, and so i made us the dodge caravan lol, good times.
