Even if all the games were free, and all i had to do was buy and Xbox, I still wouldn't. I'm betting that with my system I easily out perform an xbox anyway and I like to play FPS games, on consoles FPS games all still suck. Some of the single player was good, but even then I'll play it for a few mins and get board. Linux however, I'dd like to see someone run that who knows what they're doing. I am more an intermediate level linux (Solaris to be exact) user. So this all seems interesting, but you have my reasons for not really caring.

I'm not saying that running Linux on the XBOX would revolutionize the industry or anything, but it would add more versitility to and longer life to an already existing piece of equipment. It would probably be able to support third - party mods for games too. That alone is worth a lot. Especially with XBOX live capabilities.

Ugh. I think a lot of you miss a crucial point . . . MS built the xbox - it deserves to profit from it. It's how capitalism works. Computers and software are not free (as much of the linux community often forgets) . . . someone always has to pay.
And consider this . . . you stop paying Bill Gates ("the man") for xbox stuff, and Billy Gates will no longer produce xboxes. Why would he? Believe me, he is not in the business of making consoles to be a philanthropist.

The xbox, if I remember correctly, is basically just a low power PC in a fancy wrapper, essentially...
It is cheaper than the PCs us online FPS types use, but those can do so much more than gaming...
Besides, the only game that has been exclusively xbox that I had an interest in is Halo, and that is about to come out on PC if I remember right...

Right on all accounts. Halo for the PC (with a TON of improvements) comes out on September 1. It's still my favorite single player game ever.

Hey, I'm a huge fan of MicroSoft and Bill Gates. People can bitch all they want but just think where we would be without everything he's done.
I'm just saying that I would like my XBOX to have a value after the developers stop producing games for it. Sony has managed to buy out the majority of the developers already.

I understand your reason Freedom, but your reason varies wildly from why most people want Linux on the xbox . . . regretably, most people are only really interested in it for game piracy, which is just plain wrong, no matter how you look at it.
