All I know is that anyone who tries to tell you "This is the way it is!" is full of shit. The only thing that anyone can know for certain about the subject is that they don't know. Belief... sure, but to know for sure one way or another is impossible.

Knowing this, I leave the possiblity open that there may be ghosts, or heaven or hell or god or buddhas or aliens or demons or the devil or spirits or magic or something else entirely...

A good analogy is that once upon a time, we KNEW the earth was flat. Once upon a time, we KNEW that the sun revolved around the earth. Once upon a time, we KNEW that humans flying in powered machines was impossible. Imagine what we'll KNOW in 100 years...

My BELIEF is more in line with what Zog has said. This is based on evidence I have read and seen and heard over the course of my short life...

The hope that people will eventualy come to their senses and realize that This is it, brother! Life is special. When you die, it's game over. No 72 virgins, no fluffy clouds, no Pearly Gates.

You had better make the best of what you have now, and give life the respect it deserves. When you're dead the only contribution to anything you'll be making will be to the food chain.

You said it man! Many religious people have in fact said that leading their lifestyle sucks, but it'll all payoff in the next life. If they only knew that, just as you said, this is it. Enjoy it while your here, cause there's no payoff at the end of the line, except perhaps the sweet bosom of the grave.

I get up in the morning because I enjoy life, not so I can please some fictional man up in the sky so he'll shine light out of his ass on me and maybe let me enter some farcical "paradise" after I've gone tits up. I mean, some narcissistic twonk begging for praise and exchanging it for one-way passes to the all-you-can-eat Heavenly Buffet after you've started pushing up the daises is no way to run your life. Supreme executive power must be handed down by a mandate from the masses, not some watery tart who..... ohhh.... sorry, slipped into some Python there for a moment.

Does anyone here remember that show "Fear" on MTV?

A lot of those people didnt beleive in ghosts or anything spiritual going into it. But most of them changed there mind after the experience. I would challenge anyone here who doesnt beleive in ghosts to spend some time in a really freaky place ie abandoned prison or factory or something at night. And no a cemetery at night doesnt cut it, Grandma and Grandpa dont qualify as tortured spirits. I'm sure after doing this you non beleivers will start to question your beleifs.

Your mind is designed to react to outside stimulii. Just because I'm freaked out over something doesn't mean I believe in some fairy tale nonsense.

Fear, anxiety and a host of other built-in defense mechanisms can lead the weak to believe almost anything.

I believe I could make you believe in Santa Claus, given the proper tools.

In basic training my drill sergeant said that if one of us was an atheist, it was fine. But he also said that he'd known plenty of atheists who had found God really fast while hunkered down in a foxhole, bullets wizzing overhead. I wouldn't suggest that a soldier getting scared and praying to God makes that soldier weak.

I believe in God and life after death; but I don't believe in heaven or hell, at least in the traditional sense. That's a different story...

As far as those saying "This is it, live life to its fullest..." -- I, too, wish to live life to its fullest; but even at its longest, life is very short - and there will always be new things to see and do. If we are to just 'live great' then we are being terribly short-changed, given such a short time. I could go on but it would certainly get tedious, if it hasn't already.:D

Ghosts - NO...well maybe, I don't know...
UFOs --- Of course...I have a couple of my own stories.
ZOG ---- doesn't exist...he (or she) is just a mass hallucination.:D

I will be deeply hurt if I find out there is no such thing as a Tooth Beaver or Nerve-Ending Fairy.:help: :P

I think Ghost exist.
Psi Exist for sure.
And Life-after-death exist too. Period. Case Closed. You can't prove me wrong.

Yeah that was a great show, but it very well couldve been fake... given it was a TV show and all. Not saying it was, just a possibility

Can't prove you're right, either.

Given the choice between believing in Santa Claus and not believing in Santa Claus, I choose the latter, mostly because it makes the most sense.

"If you can't find solid proof that something does not exist then by reason it must exist"

I forgot who said that (someone very notable) and I know its not word for word but the meaning is the same.

Comparing ghosts to Santa Claus is not really relevant as they are on totally diff levels.

I'm not saying being an atheist is bad it's just I feel sorry for them. Imagine how they must feel when they know death is near. Whether there right or wrong there still screwed lol.

It all comes down to wether you beleive your just a bunch of molecules that resulted in an accident that came from "God" knows where. Or you beleive that your not just a mass of stuff, but a spirit that is in your body.

And when did this topic turn so religious lol I think I might have been to blame. Sorry all. Not preaching or anything. Just trying to understand where the atheists are coming from.

I'm an athiest, and even at my young age I can say I don't give a rat's ass about death. When I die, it's my time to go. Why worry about it and the fact that there's nothing beyond death? Just because I'm going to be worm food and not ascending to some paradise, I could really care less. That's life, it ends at some point and that will be the end of me. Might as well enjoy all the whores and booze I can while I'm here!
