I just hope Evyn doesn't decide to close this thread as well.

Keek, what's all this talk about 'closing threads' ?

Thu Jul 17, 2003 2:16 pm

Evan, it seems every time I turn around you're closing threads. I can think of 5 off hand. There are probbly others. In most of the threads you closed, I didn't see that things were 'getting out of hand', as you put it.

I'm thinking specifically about the Hung threads right now, as they are freshest in memory. Of course the guy is going to be bitter and say the odd thing bitchy. That's the nature of people upset. Over-all, the gentleman in question was lucid and showed respectful restraint in his tyrades. No, it wasn't Nebula-winning material, but his statements, and the replies to them, were well within the realistic constraints of social democracy.

I guess it irks me on a fundemental level to have someone come along and arbitrarily take freedom of expression away.

It's one thing if the thread is the recluse of foul-mouthed malcontents. I'd close that too. Much as I kick people like that at the Beach. Freedom of expression is not the same as the freedom of discriminatory remarks, racial slurs, and generally using more swear-words than normal nouns and verbs.

In other areas, notably the thread discussing life after death, you have shown yourself to be thoughtful and understanding. It surprises me with some of these thread-closings that you would treat others so off-handedly.

Keekanoo.

Thread closed.

Just kidding..

This thread has gone far enough. Thread closed!

P.S. If anyone wants to witness a thorough and destructive raping of humor, please refer to the "Thread Closed!!" thread (started by yours truly) which was mercilessly blended into another, completely unrelated, completely humorless thread for some unknown and ultimately mis-guided reason. Good job, men!

OMG hasn't that "thread closed!" joke run it's course by now?

Guess not :D :D

*master thespian voice* "Thrrread.... OPEN!!"
