Recording Demo's on RTCW

Postby DocTrebor » Sat Aug 16, 2003 11:38 pm

Ok, so I know I can take screenshots, which is simple to understand, but is there a way to take a small recording and save it to your computer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

//Demo Record Toggle
set demoon "g_synchronousclients 1;record;g_synchronousclients 0;echo ^2Recording demo.;set demotoggle vstr demooff"
set demooff "stoprecord;echo ^1Not ^1Recording demo.;set demotoggle vstr demoon"
set demotoggle "vstr demoon"
bind F11 "vstr demotoggle"

Put that in your autoexec.cfg or put it in a separate config (e.g. demo.cfg) and type /exec demo.cfg in the console or exec demo.cfg in your autoexec.cfg.

Remember this records demos in rtcw format, not as a movie so you have to have RTCW to see them.

Click 'My Computer' with the arrow shaped thing by pressing the left button of the mouse shaped thing on your table located 1 foot in front of you.

Follow the above but instead of 'My Computer' repeat on C, then 'Program Files', then 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein', then 'Main'.

Look at the screen (TV shaped device directly in front of you) and look for a file called 'autoexec.cfg' (or 'autoexec').

Open this file up in Notepad or Wordpad. Cut and paste the following:

//Demo Record Toggle
set demoon "g_synchronousclients 1;record;g_synchronousclients 0;echo ^2Recording demo.;set demotoggle vstr demooff"
set demooff "stoprecord;echo ^1Not ^1Recording demo.;set demotoggle vstr demoon"
set demotoggle "vstr demoon"
bind F11 "vstr demotoggle"

Make sure there are no extra spaces put in. It should be 4 lines.

Save it as 'autoexec.cfg' i.e. when you save it click type as 'all files' and the name as "autoexec.cfg" including the quotes otherwise it can add a .txt at the end.

Run Wolf

Press F11 to record a demo.
Press F11 to stop recording a demo.

Voila!

(I think that should work!)

When I record demos, I just type "/record demoname" (without the quotes, and demoname = whatever you want). To stop the demo, type /stoprecord
I view demos with a demoplayer I dl'ed off the net

Return to Return To Castle Wolfenstein
