Weird Things

Postby Doug the Unforgiven » Mon Jan 06, 2003 5:07 pm

Sometimes while playing the screen will quickly do some color flash and then I can't move. I see my mouse pointer moving around but I can't. If I click it, it will go away and I can move again. This seems to happen when I'm playing Wolfe while running Kazaa. When I go to my desktop, there's a pop-up window. That seems to be the cause. Am I right?

BTW, can someone refresh me on how to do screenshots?

Sorry if these sound like noob questions.:P

Your damn right, solution, stop running kazza at the same time as wolf.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll see sometime if it happens without kazaa or anything in the background.
And thanks, Cow, for the memory tap....

deffenitly dont run kazaa in the background. uses to much ram. i usually close everything. also remember that when you x out of kazaa it doesnt mean its not open, you also have to close it in your start bar.

Thanks. I'm already schooled on that about Kazaa, but I also have a lot of faith in my system. When I have what I consider to be an important download, I'll take the risk. Strangely, it hasn't done it since my original post on the subject (Kazaa still running). I guess it helps to get a popup quick and early, close it, then play. No more popup for a while. When that doesn't work, I'll close Kazaa regardless of what I'm downloading.
Thanks for the replies.

Before I play Wolfenstein online, I will first press Ctrl, Alt ,and Del together on the desktop to shut down all computer tasks apart from explorer and systray so I have much memory as possible to play Wolf. Running Kazaa and Antivirus programs can really slow down your machine, so you need to turn them off before play commences.

Regards,
Giggles.:)

Hell yes! About the time the 1.4 patch came out, I was having all kinds of problems with freezing up as soon as I entered any server using Punkbuster. Turned out that my system didn't autoupdate the PB.
I tried shutting down everything the way you said, Giggles. But in the end I had to manually update punkbuster and then patch the game with 1.4.
But I still had to turn down some of my settings, since after the patch it started crashing again even on nonPB servers.
Kinda said how a badass computer can be humbled by something as simple as autoupdate not working.
Since then I've kinda been cavalier about it (running crap in background, jacking up settings, etc.) just to see if I can.

The mouse pointer thing in the first post was brand-new to list of problems I've conquered with this game. Fortunately it was the easiest and least bothersome.

Thanks again All.

Doug i was wondering..what kazaa you using? lite or full?
if youre not already aware full is full of spyware, and lite is supposedly without spyware and crap like that.
just a tip.

Paranoid is okay, given some of the things this game has thrown at many of us.
