Not so many kids playing games as we thought

Postby Chacal » Sat Aug 30, 2003 11:13 pm

Sorry Evan, Jeffro, you're a minority...

'Survey: Female Video Gamers Outnumber Males

LOS ANGELES, California -- Challenging the stereotype that video gaming is the domain of teenage boys, an industry group reported this week that more women over 18 than young boys are playing games and the average age of players has risen to 29, Reuters news agency reports.

A poll released by the Entertainment Software Association and conducted by Peter D. Hart Research Associates found 26 percent of game players are women 18 or older, while 21 percent are boys 6 to 17.

Video gaming has traditionally been seen as the province of teenage boys locked in dark rooms and twitching away at their game consoles, although in recent years the industry has worked to publish games catering to kids, women and older gamers.

I would be interested to know how many of those women players are playing stupid shit like the Sims.

I'm sure those figures are completely different for different genres. For instance, I'd be surprised to find out that 10 percent of FPS players were women.

Yeah, you may play the sims, but I meant as in only play the sims. You play BF so any lame game playing is perfectly excusable in my book :P

I'm not sure if I can trust what women say as far as gaming goes. Most of the women in my workplace consider themselves gamers because they play Solitaire, and if they're really crazy they may try some Minesweeper.

These are also the same women that belong in the category of people that only play those two games because "Windows Pinball is too complicated".
