How many of you overclock your video cards?
Hey all
just wondering, how many of you guys actually overclock your video cards, and which ones? I have a Radeon 9700np and recently started to do some overclocking. It shipped as 275/270, and I've managed to pump this baby up to 351/304 without any artifacts (a sign of overheating)
when i play BF now, I can turn on 6XAA and 8XAF with no slowdowns at all! The game looks SO GOOD and my fps never dip below 50, with everything cranked. I can't believe how fast it's running. I know there is always a danger of the card overheating, but as long as artifacts (dots) dont show up on the screen, you should be safe.
So, any of you guys overclock? I know it's risky if you push it too high, but I still like the fact that my np card is running faster than a PRO card

I would, but my 9700 pro is a crappy overclocker.
My proc is a different story. P4C 2.4(800 Mhz FSB), OC'ed to 3.3 Gig. Well over 1 gig FSB. Running it on a canterwoodboard with 1 gig of dual channel DDR 433 ram. It flies.
When HL2 is out, or right before, I am selling this card and getting a 9800 Pro 256. The nice thing is the GPU is so mature now they almost all overclock at least to 400.

what voltage are you running your p4 on? Ive heard that the 2.4c will overclock far on stock voltages.,
Im asking cause I recently killed my 2.4b from raising its voltage up to 1.75 volts briefly for a benchmark. Im going to order a 2.4c soon and im not really looking forward to overclocking it unless its at stock voltages or with very slight increase in voltage.

Edogg,
The problem is you went to 1.75 Vcore. Very bad idea unless with a vapor chill. 1.7 is the max I would recommend, but i wouldn't even go that high.
I forget the stock Vcore(I am at work), but I only upped it .5. Like always, a good overclocking chip is random. I do suggest a canterwood board. But not th eIC7 that I have. You can only up the Vmem to the ram to a limited amount. Many of the higher speed ram need more than the IC7 can give. It is a shame Abit does this, as they have done it with other boards. They give you that 'option' in a latter 'max' edition. I beleive the Asus canterwood board give good Vmem options.

yeah I knew what I was doing when I did it, I just decided to take a gamble. The damaging effects started showing up gradually up until the point where my system couldnt boot into windows anymore.
I have a really good air cooling setup:7 case fans, aluminum case, top of the line Hsf. 1.75 volts was just too much even though my temps were fine.
right now I have an abit is7-e which is a canterwood board, so im just going to buy a 2.4c for it since its about the same price as the 2.4b that I killed.
edit: oh and the stock voltage should be 1.5 volts so that means you are running at 1.6 volts. i dont even think i want to go that high next time.
you should also check and see if there any bios updates for your IC7. ABit likes to makes some pretty cool changes to their bios, and they might have upped your voltage limit for your memory

If stock is 1.5, I am at 1.55 now. I ment .05, not .5.
Also, you are fine at 1.6. My 1.6a was running at 2.4 at 1.625 until I upgraded to this. No problems at all. when you hit 1.7 and above, you get SIDS, Sudden Intel Death Syndrom.

Jimmy what brand is your memory and are you happy with it?
Im gonna buy new ram when i order my new proc, and im trying to find some good ram at a good price. Im really on tight budget right now. If I had the money I would buy some mushkin level II pc3500, but that stuff is seriously expensive.

This is the same card I have, running on an AGP 4X which is overclocked to 90mhz. the card came as did MMmmGoods 275/550 and i have it running at 310/670 and it runs just fine.

Geil. It is fine if you have the time to RMA it until you get a correctly working pair.

i'm using Mushkin Level 1 3500. i like it. running a 2.4c@3.0ghz on stock cooling, 1.6 vcore, 5:4 fsb ratio, default vDimm. i can go higher, but i don't feel the need to push it anymore at the moment.
EDIT: forgot to mention the mobo was an Asus P4P800.

I do a lot of buying and trading there in the for sale/for trade section. You can get good deals(heck, got my current 2.4C that does 3.3 from there).
You just gotta be careful. Lots of trolls looking to rip people off. I only buy from very credible people, and since I have over 1000 positive's on ebay(business, selling off overstock or discontinued items), I usually ask for them to ship first, and if it is what they claim, then I pay.

I had purchased geil golden dragon pc 3500 before and when i got it, 1 stick was d.o.a., and the other died later on from ESD(i think). I know i should of rma'ed them but i didnt feel like dealing with it. SO now I am scared to buy geil again. they have great prices, and if you can actually get a hold of a working stick they will perform great. I think I might just buy 1 stick of 512mb pc3200 corsair or kingston hyperx, and then buy another 512 stick later when I have more money.
as far as where I buy stuff, i almost exlusively order everything from http://www.newegg.com . They have the best prices. Also, if i ever bother to rma anything they have the least hassle out of everyone.

I have 9700NP and everytime i tweak it over 290/290, i get REALLY bad artifacts!
