yes the activation process is really the only thing I hate about xp. I bought an oem version of xp, and now everytime i reformat and do a fresh install I have to call up the freindly neighborhood microsoft representative for a new key.

I could guarantee that if you sat me in front of a linux system, that i could fuck it up just as bad as any clueless idiot could do to a windows system. lol...by the time im done with it, the system will be idling at 50 percent usage.

I actually found MS's activation scheme rather inventive. When I did a full system upgrade, installing XP asked that I needed to reactivate the OS. I called the number it provided, an extremely helpful tech gave me a new activation string, and I was done with it in five mintues.
If it helps keep people from pirating the OS, I don't mind 5 or so extra minutes during a reinstall. And speaking of that, you don't even have to reactivate unless you change out more than three components between OS installs, so it's not like your going to have to reactivate every single time you reinstall.

Yeah I dunno, I never had a problem with XP activation. I've installed it 2 times on a compaq, then trashed that thing, built my new system myself and have since done a second install, both times it just activates with my CD-key. Never had to call anyone. I don't even know whats up with that. its Professional, I don't know if that would be different. I'm happy with XP but if I was to be dealing with networking then I'm sure it could get headache inducing. all I'm saying is, I do not discredit anything ZOG has said, I'm just speaking from personal experience.

I think in zog's situation, he is dealing with more than just xp or 2000. that means...*gag*...ME, maybe even 98. not to mention that you multiply that by the 400 sytems he has to support. in his situation the flaws in an OS can become magnified quite quickly.

well sure, but since I only talked about XP, I only wanted to reference zog's xp thoughts. I know how networks get, I've been studying them for years. Plus these aren't systems all on a network, some are, some probabily aren't as he said "home PC's"

95% of my clients PCs are on a network....15% of those are wireless.
