I also live in New York.. and the atmosphere here is way different than it was before 9-11. Everyone is a lot more calm in the city, crime is even down. People seem more understanding about everything... Why? Who knows. Maybe because people realized we don't have enough time in life to be worrying about attacks, or to be contemplating on what will happen next.

Whenever I hear Sept 11.. it just sends a bad feeling throughout my body as both of my parents and my brother were working in the city on that day.

You seem the say that New-Yokers, because of Sept 11th, learned to live and to enjoy every little moment in their life, it makes me mad to read it because that reaction is typical human: you must live a big danger to appreciate life... what a waste of time before that danger. We, young people must learn to enjoy our life. It certainly could be better but it easily could be worse, think about that...
The crime is down, good, but still too high, like everywhere aroun the world...
Whenever I hear Sept 11th I think about that broadcast about these young firemen (you know what I mean, filmed by 2 french brothers...). These images, pictures, were and are still terrible, horrible.
We, in Europe, lived that moment through the media (TV, radio, newspapers, the Net), probably thinking that it will never happen in old Europe. Are we sure about that? I hope, I pray it will not happen anymore, never again, nowhere around the world.
This broadcast is, for me, a testimony to the victims' soul but also and especially to the firemens' courage. These men were there, making their risky job and too many of them lost their life for others' life. I admire them. Don't answer me they were paid for that. Even a soldier is not paid to die, just to defend some values that seem to be good...
I sincerely hope that, someday, the human kind will live in peace. That moment is probably far from now. I think that, as long as money will rule the world, it won't come...
Capitalism is the worse economical system, excepted any other...

I haven't changed the way I live since the day, except I admit that I am afraid more of terrorist attacks happening. I meant that most of the people in the city have changed. When they go home, I think they are back to the way they always were.. but when you go into the city you are different. Especially when you walk by that big bare hole in the ground where the two towers used to be. It's a frightening sight and makes it all seem much more real.

One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic. The sad truth of how a world with so many people in it functions.

=XAV=, it's your kind of people that I respect. Being non- american and sympathizing for us is something I can't put into words. My uncle, who was a Lt. Col. in the military, almost died the World Trade Center. He said something like he left an hour prior or something, and quite frankly, one terrorist attack on our great country will not bring us down. :)

I also must say, despite my looks, I'm a very conservative guy, and I also have to admit that it is absoleutely great to know that the younger generations are knowing that it was wrong.

Not to mention, capitalism made our country what it is today XAV, I don't understand how you can say it's the worst economical system. It's worked for hundreds of years.

I think there were a confusion in what I wanted to say. I suppose it was a misunderstanding that cashcow rectified ("Capitalism is the worst economic system, except for all the others." )To close this, I'd say that there's no perfect economical politic, neither capitalism, nor any other.
I suppose the misunderstanding came from my bad knowledge of English, sorry.
