You just need to add Buli's tag above the guy running away...

Used to have a pet black widow when I was a kid. So unlke most of you I am ok with spiders in general. If I know it to be poisonous I take care of it and clean out my treads later. If it isn't poinsonous I will usually try to relocate to sucker outside in one of the planting beds. That is assuming that I beat my cats to it... One thing I do not screw around with is the sporadic appearance of scorpions in the house. I have found a couple of carcasses about the house, so I know my cats do not like them either...

Look, I don't know if anyone has said it yet, but wolf spiders ARE NOT dangerous (unless you are allergic to spider bites in general). Sorry Buli.

I practically grew up around these things, and if anything, they seem to help control pest problems, such as fleas, ticks, or any other such general-nuisance critters that they may wish to hunt down. They can look very menacing, sometimes having a leg span the size of a silver dollar. But again, they are generally harmless.

Brown recluse ARE dangerous, though...and I can usually spot one at a glance from many yards away (growing up in the boonies, you can become quite paranoid about them). If I can't tell the difference between the wolf and the recluse, then the spider certainly dies. But normally the differences are clear.

My wife doesn't like spiders, but I do...so we've compromised: the wolf spiders we find in the house can live, as long as I catch them and make them do their living outside (I'm usually too lazy for that - where's my shoe?).:D

On a somewhat related note: years ago in my father's house, my brother and I witnessed a mole-cricket hunt, capture, and then eat a flea. Educational and cool...

OMG!!! LOL!!!

Yeah, my home is like wolf-spider central, particularily this year with the long hot waether we've been having. Not once in 25 year has anyone in my family been bit, nor have the spiders shown any sort of aggression, even when your chasing them down to smash 'em.

Of course the exterminator want's you to call someone, prefereably himself. It's his job - what's he going to do, tell you not to pay him large sums of money to spray your house.

Wolf spiders are generally harmless, but I hate spiders so they must die... the best is when they crawl up through the drain, then they get the scalding water treatment...

What you really have to watch out for is when these things start attacking... then you have a problem :freak:

On a related note, if any of you like DVD's, run, don't walk, and go rent or buy "An Evening With Kevin Smith". There's a hilarious anecdote in there that explains how the robotic spider in Wild West came to be.
