Look, I don't know if anyone has said it yet, but wolf spiders ARE NOT dangerous (unless you are allergic to spider bites in general). Sorry Buli.
I practically grew up around these things, and if anything, they seem to help control pest problems, such as fleas, ticks, or any other such general-nuisance critters that they may wish to hunt down. They can look very menacing, sometimes having a leg span the size of a silver dollar. But again, they are generally harmless.
Brown recluse ARE dangerous, though...and I can usually spot one at a glance from many yards away (growing up in the boonies, you can become quite paranoid about them). If I can't tell the difference between the wolf and the recluse, then the spider certainly dies. But normally the differences are clear.
My wife doesn't like spiders, but I do...so we've compromised: the wolf spiders we find in the house can live, as long as I catch them and make them do their living outside (I'm usually too lazy for that - where's my shoe?).
On a somewhat related note: years ago in my father's house, my brother and I witnessed a mole-cricket hunt, capture, and then eat a flea. Educational
and cool...
