I have wondered this my entire life, too. I know I've seen footage of the tank trying to drive around him, but he would just keep sidestepping to stay in front but it would always cut out right after that.

Nope, they didn't run him over. People have been trying to find this guy for ages, no one's really sure if he's still alive. Several people have come forward over the years claiming to be "the guy", but all of them have eventually been debunked.

I can fill you in on this.

I learned in class that the tank did not run over him, he literally stopped the tank. The driver opened the hatch and waved his arms to tell him to move out of the way. He refused, and some soldiers came over and arrested him. He was released shortly thereafter, However, he later died in the hunger strike that was going on at the same time with the student rallies. The protest started out with many university students staging hunger strikes, and eventually it got violent when the Chinese government sent in the military.

And, 10 years later, the International Olympic Committee awards them the 2008 summer Olympic games. A country where free speech is forbidden, where human rights have NO RIGHTS at all, yes...a very good choice considering part of the Olympic games is about humanity and the freedoms that all human beings should have. -_-

I am personally disgusted.

I agree that China should not have gotten the olympics, but I think the reason they were chosen was because they have made a lot of progress in regards to human rights in the past years. I think rewarding them the olympics was a way to encourage china to do even more.

But yeah, many other countries should have been picked over them. oh well

I agree with Shockwave about China getting the Olympics in 2008. The reputation of the Olympic organization has been so ruined by bribery and the backroom deals that they have committed that China getting the games is no big deal to me. Humanity and lofty ideals like these are sort of silly too when you consider the origin of the Olympics, between Sparta and Athens (both slave states). The Olympics are only going to bring foreign money and media to China, which can only improve life for the average chinaman, so thats good.

True but I was one of the people who were rallying and supporting Toronto for 2008... So perhaps my opinion is a little biased based on that fact.

It was a good sight to see the entire Greater Toronto Area rally for the Olympics, suburbs in and around Toronto saw a lot of development especially for roads, new highways and venues... I live near one of the arenas that would have been used for one or two indoor events had Toronto won the bid. As well, they erected a lot of tower lights for the highway, practically a stretch of 120km leading from my suburbs area to the edge of the city of Toronto are brightly lit now... My uncle from Los Angeles even says that's an achievement since he says L.A. or most American cities don't even have that. I agree as well with most Canadian cities... it was just a great thing for my city and the surrounding areas.

It's just sad that we didn't get the bid, and now that Vancouver has the next winter games, chances of Toronto getting any kind of games won't be happening for another decade or two.... :( :( :( (Because they won't host the games in the same country or continent within a certain time frame.)

Sorry to hear that Agent Commando. It is sad because the Olympics bring alot of tourism, and good will wherever they go. It's just too bad the decision making process is controlled by a few removed elite.

1.) Mogudishu
2.) Bagdad
3.) Cancun
4.) Idaho
