All it would take for most people to moderate their drinking is a trip to any hospital's ICU and a look at someone who drinks a quart a day or so going through withdrawl, preferably on about his/her 4th or 5th day since their last drink. People talk about heroin addiction and detoxification, well heroin won't kill you when you quit, it'll just make you WISH it did. Alcohol will kill you when you DT unless you are given enough medication and then tapered. It is not a pretty sight.
