Remote Control Cars

Sat Nov 29, 2003 4:22 am

Hey folks,

I was looking into buying, or possibly recieving a Remote Control car for christmas.

Not one of those Radio Shack cheapies. Im talking about the real ones with gas powered motors.

Is anyone into those? If so, is it a good fun "toy" to have? And what of maintaince? Expensive? Do it yourself?

I really want a car that can race real quick, or a truck that can go over dirt / sand / etc.

Thanks in advance :)

I had a buddy at work who was really into them and they were great fun to mess around with when he brought em by the parking lot. He told me the only semi-expensive part was getting into it.; Buying a car for like $200-$250 or so, but as far as upkeep, they take little to no gas, and anything besides that is cheap. Even if you have to buy replacement parts etc, they are all pretty cheap at your local hobby store.

Just get something like the cars on this page:

I had a RC10 for a while and it was great fun. You can get faster motors, better shocks, better tires etc.. Electric is cheaper and easier to maintain then gas.

Yeah, I had an RC10 and RC12L back in the day, they're still in boxes somewhere, I think...

Electric is much easier to maintain IMO, since there's not all the cleanup from the exhaust and oil that the gas motors make... just buy a couple sets of batteries, keep one set on charge all the time, and you can run for quite a while...

Also, some of the motors you can get will really GO... I had one that would push that thing up to about 40mph or so... and that was 10 yrs ago...

I raced rc cars for alot of years (my brother and me) I must of owned dozens of cars and trucks, mostly electric.
It is a expensive hobby (I found out the hard way)....but it is alot of fun.

This is a picture of the first car I ever built....You have to build your first one,its the only way to go...that way you know how to put it back together when you tear it up...

This a picture of my brother after winning some kind of a dirt oval race...I think,it was a long time ago.

Let me know if you have any question's.

This Was the truck I had when I used to race them...except with a different body.

Losi XXT Truck.

Oil Filled Shocks.
Adjustable springs.
changable motors/gearing.
Lightweight body/frame.
6 or 7 cell battery pack.

Mine also had a programable electronic speed controller, and the hydra-drive adjustable slip drive unit.

Where do you plan on driving it...

The gas ones are cool but they are almost too fast to run up and down the street, and they are hard to start sometimes, and use expensive fuel.

I would like one of those gas RC boats.

Once you do get one, you can turn it into a robot!

There are some really fast ones that can reach around 80-100mph. They are real expensive though and they run off of nitros.

I have an HPI Rs4, nitro car

Saleen body, pipe, hi-flo filter, and sway bar kit...I even tinted the windows

Chrome 5spoke wheels(as close to saleen style as possbile)softtires.

Its strictly onroad...its pretty damn fast...top speed of nearly 30-35 mph. If you've never driven one...this would be out of control fast..mostly due to the all wheel drive. It accelerates riduclously fast.

Its pretty technical to be a toy. Especially if you are not mechanically inclined.:wall: All the suspension is fully adjustable, etc. Carb tuning.

Maintainance is moderate to high. There are procedures you should take after every use.

You also have to build it...unless you order prebuilt. $$$

I had about $600 invested when it was complete...including fuel, glow plugs and plug heater.

They're a real blast when you learn to not crash them.

My dad is into those super fast gas powered RC boats. Those things fly. Ive seen some that will do over 50 -60 mph. They are good fun, but you need a pretty good sized body of water that is calm and free of floating debris.

They require a bit of maintenance. They can be touchy and not start at times.

my brother uses those gas powered one with the glow sticks, after so many hours he's got to rebuild parts of the engine. To expensive of a hobby for me.
